A cordial greeting to all the friends in the community who love photography. I bring you a work project that I started a few days ago and I thought it would be interesting to let you know. It is about the restoration of old photos from the family album that over the years have suffered the passage of time. This one that I show you is a little over eighty years old, and it has its history, like all the photos that we jealously guard. It is an image of my paternal grandfather who joined the War of Independence in 1868 at the age of fourteen, and then rejoined in 1895. When the war ended, he settled with the family in the town of San Luis, in the current province of Santiago de Cuba, where he remained until his death. In that same town, in 1892, a man named Félix Benjamín Caignet Salomón was born, who was a friend of my father, and it is precisely him, Felix, who takes my grandfather's photo. Apparently, my grandfather was a good narrator of war stories, and this was what aroused the interest of the multifaceted artist, author, among many works, of "El derecho de nacer".

Well, the photo in question was preserved without much damage until one day it fell into my hands as an apprentice painter; he was ten years old at the time, so you can see the pencil grid lines. I wanted total accuracy in the portrait that I proposed to make! But I did even more damage when I painted the painting, the paint stains are the irrefutable proof.

My father only muttered some scolding, and as I remember, there were no major consequences. This is how the photo remained all these years, until, thanks to current technologies, I was able to restore it to the best of my ability.

For the restoration work I have used Photo Editor - Polish, version 1.444.145, and of course I had to learn how to use it first. Although this application has built-in image enhancement through artificial intelligence, I have not been able to use it because it is for the pro version, and from Cuba, until now, there is no way to pay on Google Play. In any case, manual restoration has its charm as it tests the patience of those who try it.
I also restored this other portrait, which, as you can see, had the imprints of the budding painter.

Now all that remains is to print and keep both the copies and the originals. And here is my post for today. At another time I will show you another really complex restoration job, which I have already started. I reiterate my greetings and see you next time.

Un saludo cordial para todos los amigos de la comunidad que aman la fotografía.
Les traigo un proyecto de trabajo que comencé hace unos días y consideré interesante darles a conocer. Se trata de la restauración de añejas fotos del álbum familiar que al pasar los años han sufrido el paso del tiempo.
Ésta que les muestro tiene algo más de ochenta años, y tiene su historia, como todas las fotos que guardamos celosamente. Se trata de una imagen de mi abuelo paterno quien se incorpora a la Guerra de Independencia en 1868 con catorce años de edad, y luego se reincorpora en 1895. Al terminar la contienda, se asienta con la familia en el poblado de San Luis, en la actual provincia de Santiago de Cuba, donde permaneció hasta su muerte.

En ese mismo poblado había nacido, en 1892, un hombre llamado Félix Benjamín Caignet Salomón, quien fuera amigo de mi padre, y es precisamente él, Felix, quien le toma la foto a mi abuelo. Al parecer, mi abuelo era un buen narrador de cuentos de la guerra, y esto fue lo que despertó el interés del polifacético artista, autor, entre muchas obras, de "El derecho de nacer". Pues bien, la foto en cuestión se conservó sin mucho daño hasta que un día cayó en mis manos de aprendiz de pintor; tenía en ese momento diez años, por eso pueden ver las líneas del cuadriculado a lápiz. ¡Yo quería total exactitud en el retrato que me proponía realizar!, pero le hice más daño aún cuando pinté el cuadro, las manchas de pintura son la prueba irrefutable.

Mi padre sólo murmuró algún regaño, y según recuerdo, no hubo mayores consecuencias. Así se mantuvo la foto todos estos años, hasta que, gracias a las actuales tecnologías, he podido restaurarla lo mejor que pude.

Para el trabajo de restauración he utilizado el Editor de Fotos - Polish, versión 1.444.145, y por supuesto, primero tuve que aprender a utilizarlo. Aunque esta aplicación tiene incorporada la mejora de la imagen por medio de la inteligencia artificial, no la he podido usar porque es para la versión pro, y desde Cuba, hasta este momento, no hay forma de pagar en la Google Play. De todas formas, la restauración manual tiene su encanto al poner a prueba la paciencia de quien lo intenta.

También restauré este otro retrato, que, como lo pueden ver, tenía las huellas del pintor en ciernes.

Ahora solo resta imprimir y conservar tanto las copias como los originales.

Y hasta aquí mi post de hoy. En otro momento les mostraré otro trabajo de restauración verdaderamente complejo, que ya he comenzado.
