In this story, I'll show you photos from my first children's shoot and how it all came to be.
Three years ago we were at sea with my wife and a friend's family. We had no children yet. Basically we traveled and did whatever we wanted. Our friends have two beautiful daughters who constantly wanted me to photograph them. At the time I was doing my photography course and I wasn't sure of myself. We have all heard and read how children are constantly running around and their concentration is quite difficult.
On our last morning of the beach season, we had coffee near the beach. Their older daughter, Addie, had made pancakes the night before, which looked great on the table. I reached for it but she pulled the plate away and said if I don't take a picture of them I won't eat...
HOW SO?!
I am one of those people who is addicted to food. Especially the harmful one because it's delicious. There was so much chocolate in these pancakes that I couldn't resist. I surrendered!
Luckily I didn't have my camera with me. We agreed to take the photos after the afternoon beach. I took the whole plate and went to the accommodation to eat and I think about how exactly to photograph them. I read thousands of posts on the internet. Instead of becoming ambitious, I became more afraid with each subsequent one. Then I just stopped reading and thought about what was around me as scenery and props.
It couldn't be easier...
Adi dances folk dances. There was even a folklore concert last day at the sea. This means that he has folk costumes in his luggage. What's better than photos of a small child in Bulgarian costumes?!
I don't like studio shots, so I would improvise somewhere in the city. However, her sister looks much more mischievous and difficult to photograph. After a few more minutes of thinking I decided to give her a sand bucket and some beach stuff and just stalk her. You can see in the first picture how interesting he looks. I was able to achieve this by unobtrusively lying across from her with a brace on my eye and simply calling out her name. The photo was taken for the first time. All worry is gone!
I took the photos of her sister in two different courtyards of old houses that I found along the way. We also went to a children's playground, a city park, and one of the children we met gave his kimono to take a picture with.
It's been years of remembering this session whenever I feel insecure before a photo shoot. Just don't be afraid! Once you know your camera settings, the rest will fall into place.
By the way, the pancakes were uniquely delicious!

I took the photos with a Nikon 5600 / 18-140 lens
I'm not proud of them, but I decided to share my experience with you.
