I sleep the least during summer. I just seem to run on less required energy. Somewhat fuelled by coffee but also that strong heat. It's harder to sleep more in Armenia where it's on the brink of hitting 40 degrees, that strong summer sunlight pushing through in the morning and warming up the building. I've slept probably the least I ever have though, and that's mostly due to all the things happening at the moment. Just really trying to get things moving, and things aren't moving as fast as I'd like. There's a lot I need to do, a lot of things I want to do. Still, there are some moments to relax and enjoy the good of summer. With this first image being of a camera: one thing I'm really gunning for is a new one. As well as a cine wide angle lens I've been eyeing up.
I think some of what I've been wanting to shoot has been creeping up in some of the images I've been sharing here. I mentioned wanting a wide angle cine lens, and I think to some degree I have been somewhat emulating some of that feel by cropping some of the images and focusing more on the subject within, removing some of the frame that isn't so important and intentional. It has actually been a really fun change of style that I think I've been needing for a long time; mostly throughout my photography I've used focal lengths that are much tighter, ranging from 50mm to 85mm. I still love those lenses and focal lengths, but 35mm and below have really been creating a bit of a creative itch I'm not quite dealing with. The wide angle cine lens focal length being 16mm. I really want it! And some of that reason being for more immersive imagery that takes into consideration the environment within the story. Oh, and for video of course; who gets a cine lens for stills?!
I think in general I've been really wanting to shoot more video, though with the Sony A6000 that's not entirely ideal. The camera is a bit dated and doesn't offer the most versatile video options. It's a great camera for stills, not much has changed there. The quality remaining exceptional from that older sensor. Though sometimes it doesn't perform the best under low light conditions with how that noise rapidly increases from above 640 ISO. So there goes all depth within an image too! But in regular daylight conditions it still works like a charm. Though the want to shoot all kinds of little clips through the summery streets of Yerevan is so high. So many little moments I notice throughout the day that I want to capture and find unique ways to portray. Slow motion, strong colour range, and of course the wider perspectives below 35mm. This is a crop sensor too so it holds a more closer focal length around 50mm on full frame.
The other need for a new camera and some new lenses is that I'm preparing to start working in these fields in Armenia. Now a registered taxpayer in the country, I'm really wanting to pick up some work and really make a bit of a difference here. The photography and videography industries still being so new here. It's a field that doesn't have a whole lot of experienced creatives in it, though the demand appears to be increasing within each day as different types of businesses form and attempt to expand within such a small country. But still, even without all of these thoughts in my head, I'm really trying to enjoy whatever remains of summer.
