I posted the one day flower in our garden some days ago and considered it done. But life didn't think so and it decided to show us a great and wonderful new discovery in a totally unexpected place.
Flowers, bees and butterflies to bring some light into your Sunday. We wish everyone a peaceful Sunday.
We often stop at a small shopping center to get some provisions, but on this day something totally different grabbed my wife's attention. There is a little dried meat (biltong) shop at the shopping center, and at the front of the little shop there is a pot with the, guess what? flowers in it.
The flowers are called Echinopsis Werdermannii cactus, 24-hour flowers. Meaning that they only bloom for one day.
This below was when my wife first saw the pot. As I took the photo, I knew that the flowers would bloom overnight, and I told the shop owner that we will return the next day.
Oh yes, I was right, as they did bloom overnight and look at this beauty below.
Not one, but eight flowers and we were delighted to see them.
Sadly, they were not for sale, and you can see why :)
Here's our Echinopsis cactii and we cannot wait for them to grow as big as the one's in the pot above. Great things to look forward to.
But this is not all, as here below are some different beauties.
A bee came into sit on the flowers of our Christ Thorn cactus.
A beautiful Painted Lady butterfly, and I caught her as she popped up to a different flower of the Everlasting plants.
Another one of the bee.
And another of the butterfly.
Finally, this is a trick shot to test your eyes.
It looks like this red flower has a yellow and white center. But it isn't, as the yellow and white bud is a separate flower at the front of the red pincushion.
Amazing what one's eyes can tell one at first perceptions, but then a closer look can change the mind so often. An old saying, don't judge a book by its cover, is apt here especially with the last picture above. I saw it at a further distance away, and the yellow and white bud really looked like the center of the red pincushion behind it. But as you saw, it was not to be. Quick looks can be very deceiving, and it's always a good thing to take a deeper look at things. I know, because I have been caught out many times, but that is how we learn.
Such is life.
I hope you have enjoyed the pictures.
