What else I saw at the pond

In the previous article I showed you dragonflies around the Draždíř pond, and now I will show you the other animals and insects I saw there.

As I approached the bank of the pond, I heard several splashes. The frogs jumped into the water, but one of them, the bravest, stayed to look at me. So I looked at it too, and here's a picture of it.

V předchozím článku jsem vám ukázal vážky v okolí rybníka Draždíř, a teď vám ukážu ostatní živočichy a hmyz, který jsem tam viděl.

Když jsem se přiblížil ke břehu rybníka, zaslechl jsem několik šplouchnutí. Do vody naskákaly žabky, ale jedna z nich, ta nejodvážnější, zůstala, aby si mně prohlédla. Takže jsem si prohlédnul i já ji a tady máte její fotku.

On the one hand, butterflies are beautiful creatures, bursting with color. On the other hand, their habits are sometimes strange. Many species of butterflies have a taste for all sorts of smelly and disgusting things, sweat, pus, and the like. This Red Admiral enjoyed rotten fruit.

Na jednu stranu, motýli jsou překrásná stvoření, které hýří barvami. Na druhou stranu, jejich zvyky jsou někdy podivné. Hodně druhů motýlů má v oblibě různé páchnoucí a nechutné věci, pot, hnis a podobně. Tato babočka admirál si pochutnávala na nahnilém ovoci.

Along with the butterfly, the hornets also enjoyed the fruit. People usually fear hornets. No wonder, these insects look very threatening and combative. In fact, hornets are very peaceful, and if you don't tease them, they won't hurt you.

Společně s motýlem si na ovoci pochutnávaly i sršně. Sršňů se lidi obvykle bojí. Není divu, tento hmyz vypadá velmi výhruužně a bojovně. Ve skutečnosti jsou sršni velmi mírumilovní a pokud je člověk nedráždí, tak mu nic neudělají.

The last pictures are of a Speckled Wood Butterfly. If it hadn't moved, I probably wouldn't have noticed it. Its camouflage protects it perfectly, blending in with the dry leaves in plain sight.

Na posledních fotkách je motýl okáč. Kdyby se nepohnul, určitě bych si ho ani nevšiml. Jeho ochranné zbarvení ho dokonale chrání, při běžném pohledu úplně splývá se suchým listím.
