On the top of Hühnerberg near the spa city of Baden there stood a gallow it was the highest altitude gallow in Austria until 1788 when it got broken down. The gallow was used to hang Franz von Haag who was the leader of a band of robbers in 1466. Since the gallow is quite a walk away from the city of Baden it was hardly ever used. It took my wife and I about 45 minutes to get to the top of Hühnerberg. We started from the Kurpark main entrance which I will share in another photowalk.
The first image is about 60% of the route done with a look back towards Baden.
The way up until here was easy hiking with a steady rise. You should for sure have some good shoes on and take some water.
Another 25 minutes of hike and we already could see it.
The great lookout point that had been established by Theresia Göschl in 1884 who paid for the first lookout tower with her own money. This tower was then renovated in 1912 and 1980.
The structure you see today was built in 2016.
it is more than 18m high and much higher than the old one. The lookout terrace is in a height of 17,28m.
the way up goes over a stable staircase made of metal.
The outter part is made of wood. The complete structure is super safe and you can easily walk up and down.
You start in the height of the trees and walk above them.
A few more steps on the see through stairs, do not look down if you are afraid of heights.
Up above Baden city you can now enjoy the view.
