"Anyone can take a snapshot. Even an automatic machine. But not everyone can observe. Photography is only an art to the extent that it employs the art of observation. Observation is a fundamentally poetic process. Reality must also be shaped in order to make it speak."
Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Sometimes the things happen very fast. In a public space it is hard to frame your picture If you see a good moment you have to be fast. You can not hesitate to click that shutter. But you can also not be too early or too late.
The best camera you can have at that very moment is simply the one you have with you.
"The equipment we use plays only a small role. What matters more is mastering it."
Sam Abell
Nowdays you have the convenience of having powerful cameras with you in your smartphone and guess what, you can even edit your photos on the same device.
The image has been shot right when the metro was driving in. I had to get on that train to be somewhere. One chance, so I tried to center myself with one step and hit the shutter. It is not perfectly done but it's close enough to start doing something with it.
The lines help to bring the center of attention to the subject.
A man preparing the Natural History Museums next exhibit. Before that I was already eyeing that vitrine because it only contained a roll of paper towels and a spray flask, looking like a readymade by Marcel Duchamp. But I missed that moment to capture so this was my next best and only shot.
To finish off my little writing here I show you 2 more pictures I used my smartphone for, the reason I just did not have any other camera on hand.
These where taken a day prior in a burger joint I went to check out. And this is the entrance to their bathrooms. I really love the usue of these narrow mirrows and the lighting of the full scene.
Again of course these are not perfect shots and I could have used much more expensive and higher quality equipment , but I just simply did not have more on me.
This post has been mostly done from my PC and finished off on the phone since I work on a wedding today and I can not show any pictures from there of course.
Thanks for reading and commenting!
