Ponte Dom Luís I is a striking landmark of Porto and a masterpiece of 19th century engineering. Built between 1881 and 1886 to designs by Théophile Seyrig, a former partner of Gustave Eiffel, the bridge connects the districts of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro River. With its iconic double structure, which offers both an upper and a lower level for pedestrians and vehicles, the bridge impresses not only with its technical sophistication but also with its aesthetic elegance. The Ponte Dom Luís I has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Porto and attracts numerous visitors every year, who enjoy breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding countryside from the bridge. Erbaut zwischen 1881 und 1886 nach Entwürfen von Théophile Seyrig, einem ehemaligen Partner von Gustave Eiffel, verbindet die Brücke die Stadtteile Porto und Vila Nova de Gaia über den Fluss Douro. Mit ihrer ikonischen Doppelstruktur, die sowohl eine obere als auch eine untere Ebene für Fußgänger und Fahrzeuge bietet, beeindruckt die Brücke nicht nur durch ihre technische Raffinesse, sondern auch durch ihre ästhetische Eleganz. Die Ponte Dom Luís I hat sich zu einem der bekanntesten Symbole von Porto entwickelt und zieht jährlich zahlreiche Besucher an, die von der Brücke aus einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die Stadt und die umliegende Landschaft genießen. Auch ich war mehr als beeindruckt von diesem einzigartigen Bauwerk und konnte kaum aufhören, die vielen verschiedenen Perspektiven, die sie bietet mit meiner Kamera festzuhalten.
