Exploring Europe's Hidden Gems #5 Kilpisjärvi, Finland

We tried to climb the mountain mentioned above, however, as you can see from the evening photo, there was a huge wind and the top was hidden in the fog. We reached the hillside a kilometer or so below the summit and even so, we had a breathtaking view of Lake Kilpisjarvi.

At this point we had accommodation in a little red house, which is more typical of Norway, but in that it is the border, so I understand. One thing I like about Finland is that no matter what kind of accommodation you take you will always have a sauna right in the apartment. You get used to it quickly and then miss it everywhere in Europe.

There are also beautiful waterfalls around the village, which have a nice atmosphere in any weather. What I liked most was the rawness, wildness, and style of the landscape for which I couldn't find words. This unique nature can be found anywhere above the Arctic Circle and the Lapland area is unforgettable.

Kilpisjärvi was our first chance to try our hand at aurora viewing, as there aren't many days with clear skies in Finland. And on the very first day, luck smiled on us and I still consider it the greatest experience of my life. Seeing the Northern Lights over a lake where we stood at -20 degrees and walked to warm up in the car before the green line appeared in the sky.

Kilpisjärvi has left me with perhaps the experience of a lifetime that I remember very often, and I would like to go back to the Nordic landscapes, but so far I have not been successfully able to do that. I wish every nature lover to see the Aurora Borealis and if you get a chance to experience this unique phenomenon, don't hesitate to go and see it.
