I guess my main gripe with any Government authoritarian measure is that it takes away from my ability to choose.
I'm all fine with, "Greater good" arguments,as most community rules seem to be an obvious positive. So obvious, that it would be followed even if it was a suggestion. Heavy handedness is rarely required amongst a reasonable person.
In this discussion, between Michael and Paul, there are very clear rules that AHPRA needs to follow when undertaking an experimental program.
It seems now, in hindsight, that the road of "safe and effective" has flaws, that the "$cience" was prone to, let's just say, "modification".
Being a reader of History, and with an interest in Human behaviour, these types of scenarios have played out before.
The arguments are not new. The stubborness, and the polarisation, are expected from Humanity.
After all, we are a species filled with hubris & contradiction.
There is always Hope. Humanity has tread these kind of paths before.
It just takes a pause, a deep breathe, and an understanding of our Fears.
As a friend once said to me about her life being content,
"I have enough for 10,000 bowls of rice. Enough for my lifetime. Now, we help others."
