AGUANGA, Calif. – An illegal marijuana growing operation where seven people were fatally shot in a small, rural Southern California town had the markings of organized crime, authorities said Tuesday.
Illegal grows are common in and around Aguanga, a single stop-sign town of about 2,000 people north of San Diego with horse ranches along dirt roads. Still, the scale of the Labor Day massacre stunned residents and showed how violence permeates California’s illegal marijuana market.

“The cannabinoids CBDA, tetrahydrocannabinolic acid-A (THCA-A), cannabidivarinic acid (CBDVA), and cannabichromenic acid (CBCA) were detected in all cattle after [industrial hemp] dosing,” one paper, which was published in the journal Nature in July, concluded. “These results show acidic cannabinoids, especially CBDA, are readily absorbed from the rumen and available for distribution throughout the body.”
Its uses are endless and its success with Wise’s cattle is one example of that, according to Lee.
“Because of the high oil content and the fatty acids, the animals actually utilize more of their feed, he said. “They digest more of it, which means the farmer is getting more out of his feed.”
Aside from hemp feed being high in protein and fatty acids, hemp-fed cattle are antibiotic, steroid and hormone free.
Hemp-fed cows taste better too, he said.

Hemp industry worries DEA rule puts extractors at risk, but path forward unclear
U.S. hemp producers are alarmed about a Drug Enforcement Administration rule that they argue would make extracts a Schedule 1 controlled substance during a portion of the extraction process when the plant’s THC levels spike above what’s allowed.p,
The rule released last month has the industry reeling and wondering what steps to take to ensure extractors aren’t criminally liable. Meanwhile, the DEA is downplaying the likelihood of a crackdown on CBD extraction.
The rule was released last month to align DEA regulations in response to hemp legalization under the 2018 Farm Bill. But CBD processors were alarmed by language that hemp legalization “does not automatically exempt any product derived from a hemp plant,” because extracts become illegal marijuana if they exceed the legal THC limit of 0.3%.
