Hi guys, hope the week is going smoothly. It's nice to be here again. The topics here are always thought-provoking, helping us to learn, unlearn and relearn. Big appreciation to the community leaders and all members that always take their time to participate.
Yes, we want to talk about the most popular music style. Music itself can be categorized to two wide categories, which are: religious and circular music. Circular music means they aren't about religion and they include: pop music, Jazz and so on.
However, every music be it circular or religious has its style. There are lots of music styles, including: reggae, pop, Afrobeats and the likes. Of all these styles however, Afrobeat is the most popular.
Afrobeat is the African into music. It originated from the southwestern Nigeria and was highly influenced by Fela Anikulapo Kuti. I consider it most popular because it has been in existence long before I was born, and now more popular now that I'm grown and this time around, it's making waves globally. Both on their home soil and internationally, afrobeats artists are not slacking. Considering the likes of Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tem, Ayra Star, Rema, Asake (Mr Money) are globally doing well, and have made Afrobeat a style to reckon with.

Imagine, Burna Boy performed his Afrobeat at Olympic Stadium in London and it was sold out. Wizkid sold out Madison Square Garden in Paris and even 02 Arena in London. Afrobeat is becoming so popular and has become globally acceptable that its artists are selling out even in strange lands. Davido, Rema, Asake all had a sold out show at 02 Arena. Even Tiwa Savage is doing so well and representing Afrobeat so well on the global stage. In fact, the whole world testified to the vibrant instrumentation of Afrobeat at Tiwa Savage's performance at the coronation of King Charles III in England, just a year ago. She combined various musical instruments including 'gangan' , an African talking drum, with other instruments melodiously. The audience were amazed and elated at the soulful and energetic performance of the Afrobeat queen. A testament to the world of Afrobeat.
Afrobeat is not just popular, they carry quality contents that resonate with one's emotions, feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and so on. In fact, Afrobeat is also used satirically to condemn vices in the community and correct even the government. Fela died in 1997, just when I was 3 years of age, but I grew up to know how he really used his Afrobeat songs to address some pressing issues in society. I grew up to know how he used his Afrobeat songs to oppose injustice and called for social reform.
Little wonder, Idris Abdulkareem's songs like Nigeria 'Jagajaga' and "Tell your Papa" were banned. He used his Afrobeat songs to criticize the government on how they are making the masses suffer. But government banned those songs in 2004 and 2025 respectively. The government promptly censored the songs, because they know how wide and viral it could go, as Afrobeat songs. With all the facts listed, I will say again that Afrobeat is the most popular.
