Music as widely known is the combination of sounds pleasant to the hearing. Music is age-long with human as we have the ability to recognize and appreciate pleasant sounds all things been equal. Music is expressible and it has found several expressions in human endeavors such as in learning (especially early child education), in advertisement, in entertainment, in cultural promotion, in income/revenue generation etc. Music is indeed a universal language as we humans in different nations of the world engages it in different areas of our lives and existence. The universality of music is as such:
(a) MUSIC HAS A WIDELY ACCEPTED REPRESENTATION
In my more than two decades of music, i thrilled to see the possibility of a music piece been performed in different nations of the world because of the universal representation of music in form of musical notes and representation. Once a music piece whether indigenous, contemporary or of any genre is well presented on a musical stave, it can be replicated and performed the same way in nations of the world once the person can sight read the notations. Hence, the more reason music notation and sight reading are a major block of learning in the school curriculum right from elementary to higher institutions of learning such as colleges, polytechnics and universities.
(b) SAME GLOBAL MUSIC EXPRESSIONS AND USAGE EVEN AMIDST DIVERSITIES
Music has found some unique expressions in human life with global relevance such as its use as a lullaby in calming little babies. Also, it has found use in learning and education especially in early childhood education as they learn through simple songs for easy comprehension. Major festivals in several nations of the world has a music part of it especially as it relates to entertainment. Human ceremonies such as wedding, coronations, burial, naming ceremonies and others has music section in it and all these shows that indeed, music is a universal language. Even in therapy, music is used/recommended as an adjunct treatment plan for some human health disorders such as anxiety, bipolar disorders etc
(c) THE WIDE ACCEPTABILITY OF MUSIC AND ITS UNIVERSAL RELEVANCE
Music is well accepted from most nations of the world and this global acceptance found relevance in promoting peace and unity. Even at global events involving nations of the world, music found its relevance as a global language. Take for example, during world sports events involving nations of the world, the national and global anthem of such sport e.g. football β½ is sung which is not a coincidence, but a way of fostering peace and unity. Even professional bodies and the likes which has a global prominence has a unique music piece and uses it at global events.
In all, music ia not just an individual or corporate thing, its impacts and usefulness cut across several nations of the world and hence, signifies its universality as a language understood and appreciated by all. Thanks for reading even as comments and contributions are welcomed.
