I been tasked to substitute for someone in the gasoline station. It was a small business near the small community but engaged merely in farming, fisheries, agriculture, and land quarries. Of course, one thing that comes to my mind is that I agreed for me to stay and hold the gasoline clutch is the idea of experience and knowing the business. Some places might have self-service gasoline stations, but in the Philippines, it's not. Open up your gasoline tube and order how much litter, and someone will serve it to your car. Somehow, I learned how to operate the machine, change the prices, make payouts, and everything. On all sides of the business, others might find it boring or not typical with their career preference to becoming a gas boy, but I found it fascinating.
Talking to people and judging their attitudes by appearance made my stay more enjoyable. Not all customers are good, not all are pleasing, and not everyone can be friends. You need to handle them professionally though I am a gasoline buddy. The challenge is that after 20 minutes of dictating what I need to do, the next time I am alone, just the phone calls that give me instructions on what to do.

Last Thursday, I witnessed how they delivered the raw material in the depositing tunnel. I supervised and ensured that the suitable material would be placed in the right tunnel. Secure it to prevent loss, failure, accidents, and everything. If one fails, the gasoline will be defective, and there is no room for a mistake, for one foreign material added undoubtedly results in chaos.
Look if it was in the right order.
I supervised if it was in the correct order. The command I received was that they would refill the depositing tunnel with 4000 Liters of Diesel and another 1000 Liters of Premium gasoline. I was checking if the tank was in the right order before giving the command to deposit it to the right tunnel finally. Also, I must secure things and look for fuel quality. One of the parameters is the colour of it, and some cheats added water, so carefully needed a detecting glance.

The green color was the Diesel used for some heavy trucks and cars, and the red was the premium gasoline used by light vehicles like single motorcycles and some personal cars.
The vacuum.
When receiving the proper order and guaranteed it was the right one, he will use a heavy vacuum tube to transport the 4000 liters of Diesel to the depositing tunnel. First, they need to show up and secure for the second time by giving sampling by opening the lid and carefully checking what is required. Well, I am the supervisor in my last work, so I have a keen eagle eye.
Transporting a thousand liters took time. It's not that easy or fast. The delivery men and I talked with each other for a moment. Surprisingly he lives in the place where I took my college degree. We both have stories, asking about things and what is currently happening in the area. I said some names of my friends that reside in the same place as him and found we have a mutual friend that goes to the business side.
I asked about the business, how they delivered, the proof of payment schemes, and how they created the volatile price of crude and gasoline. Because we were mutual friends, he was more confident to share things with me.
I smiled, knowing that it was not bad, the industry of the fuel business sector. It's not what I think in the first place.
Learning The Business Side.
As my stay made me bored looking at the clock to end at 5 PM, I began to investigate their inventory and stocks, the sales, and everything. They weren't forbidding me, though. They were also eager to share things that might help me have an idea. I am free to look around with records and won't disclose or ruin papers.
In my mind, I have seen the reasons why some local fuel gas stations lose. One of the things is that it's not that vast profit when you are just a tiny company, unlike other giant corporations. I tried investigating the cost and expenditure, the income and taxation, and gains. It's not huge as we think about the gasoline station.
One thing that contributes is the volatility of the fuel prices, the price of electricity for its cost a lot of power, the loans and everything. Overall, the business won't be that secure without support. I tried to look for help.
One thing that made them survive was that they were not only relying on the fuel business. They used the gasoline station as their daily fuel storage for they were engaged in agricultural business that needed a heavily armored trucks such as reapers, harvesters, and transplanters. They are also in a quarry and require some backhoes and heavy operators.
That's how they run the business. The gasoline station wasn't that primary source, so they could still survive the volatility and losses.
Many things I learned during my stay will be helpful in the future as I will see myself too engaging in the same venture or partnering with them. As young as I was, I wanted to experience more business lookouts and become friendly regarding operations.
How about you? What business do you want to venture into, does gasoline station one? Well, think hundred times.
