Most of my mornings start with coffee, but the weekday mornings are a little different. The coffee isn't necessarily better (or worse) but it's paid for my my company and I get paid to drink it. That's a win right?
I'm fortunate to have almost total autonomy in my role; that means I can do what I want when I want to do it and the up-chain (the State Manager) leaves me to it. The work has to get done naturally, I need to perform, but I'm left to it and am able to be incredibly flexible with my time and whereabouts. This situation has occured because I'm trustworthy, productive and never (ever) shirk my responsibilities. It's not a perk of the job, it's a perk of my hard work, effort, results and the fact I'm a professional operator. It's an earned right.
I come to a cafe, usually the same one, and have breakfast or just coffee; it's a nice way to start the day, a softer, less confronting method, than arriving in an office and getting the whip cracked on my back; there's just coffee, and bacon and eggs.
I open my laptop, review the days' appointments, make some calls to confirm (I confirm every appointment I go to) and send emails based on happenings overnight and attend to any situations that may have come up. I'm in trucking, logistics and transport so it's almost a guarantee that something came up, it's intrinsic. I find it's a really productive way to begin the day, it sets me up for the rest of it. Sure, I can do this from home as I generally use my home office over the work office but there's something more relaxing about coming here and it makes me feel like I'm working, but not working.
Speaking of working, I've got to get moving soon as I have a meeting with a client, a national steel manufacturer, and have to be on my game so...one more coffee and I'll be on my way but before I go...
