In these three years coming and going from here to there in my country Argentina I had the opportunity to learn a lot of things and see a lot of beautiful places. Doing this always requires great organization and having everything well planned when it comes to money. I think that money is always the main limitation when traveling because it determines how far we can go on the trip, so it is one of my main concerns. But talking to some travelers I was able to discover that there are some accommodations that accept work as a "form of payment" for the accommodation, which allows them to stay a little longer in that place, save and be able to continue exploring it. The idea of doing this kept echoing in my head until I am finally putting it into practice these days 💖.
En estos tres años yendo y viniendo de aquí a allá en mi país Argentina tuve la oportunidad de aprender un montón de cosas y ver una gran cantidad de lugares hermosos. Hacer esto siempre requiere una gran organización y tener bien planeado todo en cuanto a dinero se trate. Creo que el dinero siempre es el principal limitante a la hora de viajar porque condiciona hasta que punto podemos llegar en el paseo, así que es una de mis principales preocupaciones. Pero hablando con algunos viajeros pude descubrir que hay algunos alojamientos que aceptan trabajo como "forma de pago" del alojamiento, lo que les permite quedarse un poco más en ese lugar, ahorrar y poder seguir explorándolo. La idea de hacer esto quedó resonando en mi cabeza hasta que finalmente la estoy concretando estos días ❤️.
In all my previous trips there was always a lot of planning as to where I would go, what I would do, how and when, and above all, what precise budget I needed for all of that. My favorite way to plan everything was to write things down in an Excel spreadsheet and even after the trip, check if my budget had been correct. Doing this does not stress me and on the contrary, it gives me confidence to arrive at the place and have everything under control. But on the last trip I planned for myself, I went a little bit outside of this: no spreadsheet, no budget, no itinerary. At first this scared me a little but in the end everything turned out well 😃.
En todos mis viajes anteriores siempre hubo una gran planificación en cuanto a donde iría, qué haría, cómo y cuándo, y sobre todo, qué presupuesto preciso necesitaba para todo eso. Mi forma favorita de planear todo era anotar las cosas en una planilla de excel e incluso finalizado el viaje, verificar si mi presupuesto había sido acertado. Hacer esto no me estresa y al contrario, me da seguridad de llegar al lugar y tener todo bajo control. Pero en el último viaje que planeé para mí, me salí un poco de esto: nada de planilla, nada de presupuesto, nada de itinerario. Al principio esto me asustó un poco pero al final salió todo bien 😃.
As I have a very clear travel objective, which is to visit at least one place in all the provinces of Argentina, I wanted my trip to be to one of the provinces that I had yet to visit. Without looking for it, on the Internet I saw an offer for these volunteer positions in a hostel in the province of San Juan and without thinking much, I applied and after a few days, the owners confirmed that I could come. After that I bought my plane ticket and although I was very nervous until the day of traveling, I really wanted to live this experience ❤️.
Como tengo un objetivo viajero muy claro que es visitar al menos un lugar de todas las provincias de Argentina, quería que mi viaje sea a una provincia de las que me faltaban visitar. Sin buscarlo, en Internet vi una oferta de estos voluntariados en un hostel en la provincia de San Juan y sin pensarlo mucho, me postulé y después de algunos días, los dueños me confirmaron que podía venir. Después de eso compré mi pasaje de avión y aunque estuve muy nerviosa hasta el día de viajar, tenía muchas ganas de vivir esta experiencia ❤️.
Being my first time doing this exchange and with total inexperience, everything was a lottery, but I was lucky enough to end up in a beautiful, quiet hostel with very friendly people. They understand that the idea of this exchange is also to be a tourist in the province, so they organize my work schedule so that I can have days off to walk and they are always very flexible when it comes to accommodating the schedule. I'm really very satisfied with this and I am very happy to have come here ❣️.
Siendo mi primera vez haciendo este intercambio y con total inexperiencia todo fue una lotería, pero tuve la suerte de caer en un hostel hermoso, tranquilo y con gente muy amable. Ellos entienden que la idea de este intercambio también es poder ser turista en la provincia, así que organizan mi horario de trabajo para que pueda tener días libres para pasear y siempre son muy flexibles a la hora de acomodar el cronograma. Realmente estoy muy conforme con esto y me alegra mucho haber venido acá ❣️.
Our specific exchange is 21 hours of work per week in exchange for accommodation and breakfast. Those 21 hours are divided into three shifts of 7 hours each, so I have four days off during the week to go for a walk. Although I had no experience in volunteering, in these three years I went to a large number of hostels so I already knew how everything worked. My specific tasks consist of receiving guests, cleaning common spaces and rooms, prepare breakfast, gardening and general maintenance of the place. Personally, I also like to interact with guests and recommend places and excursions, which are what I do myself on my days off 😃.
Nuestro intercambio específico es de 21 horas de trabajo semanales a cambio de alojamiento y desayuno. Esas 21 horas estan repartidas en tres turnos de 7 horas cada uno, por lo que en la semana me quedan cuatro días libres para poder ir a pasear. Si bien no tenía experiencia en voluntariados, en estos tres años fui a una gran cantidad de hostels así que ya sabía como funcionaba todo. Mis tareas específicas consisten en recepción de huéspedes, limpieza de espacios comunes y habitaciones, preparar el desayuno, jardinería y mantenimiento general del lugar. En lo personal, también me gusta interactuar con los huéspedes y recomendarles lugares y excursiones, que son las que yo misma hago en mis días libres 😃.
I think this travel exchange adapted very well to my current needs. As I've said many times, my Hive blog is currently my biggest source of income and I can continue writing here from anywhere, so everything works out perfectly for me: I work online, I work in real life to pay for my accommodation and time free to discover a new place which is what I like the most. It also helped me a lot to have savings to not be so up to date with expenses, and the fact that I was only 1200 km from my house left me calm that I could return at any time. I feel that all my effort was worth it and that these days I was making the most of my days by going to all the mountains that are near here 😅.
Yo creo que este intercambio viajero se adaptó muy bien a mis necesidades actuales. Como ya he dicho muchas veces, actualmente mi blog de Hive es mi mayor fuente de ingresos y puedo seguir escribiendo acá desde cualquier parte, así que todo cierra perfectamente para mí: trabajo en línea, trabajo en la vida real para costear mi alojamiento y tiempo libre para descubrir un lugar nuevo que es lo que más me gusta. También me sirvió bastante contar con ahorros para no estar tan al día con los gastos, y el hecho de estar a solo 1200 km de mi casa me deja tranquila de que podía volver en cualquier momento. Siento que todo mi esfuerzo valió la pena y que estos días estuve aprovechando al máximo mi días yendo a todas las montañas que estan cerca de acá 😅.
In this hostel, there are six of us volunteers so we can split the shifts so that we all have free time. My colleagues also work online or have jobs outside the hostel to continue paying for their trip. They are people my age, who also have the same idea of traveling through Argentina and several of them have already volunteered in other hostels. They told me that I was lucky to come to this one, which is very quiet and with very friendly owners, because it is not like that in all places. They say that sometimes you are asked too much for a job that has no financial reward, so they gave me advice not to let them take advantage of me. This scared me a little but still left me more prepared for my next experience 😅.
En este hostel, somos seis los voluntarios así que podemos repartirnos los turnos para que todos tengamos tiempo libre. Mis compañeros también trabajan en línea o tienen trabajos fuera del hostel para seguir costeando su viaje. Ellos son gente de mi edad, que también tiene la misma idea de viajar por Argentina y varios de ellos ya hicieron voluntariados en otros hostels. Me dijeron que tuve suerte en venir a este que es muy tranquilo y con dueños muy amables, porque no en todos los lugares es así. Dicen que a veces se te exige demasiado para un trabajo que no tiene recompensa económica, así que me dieron consejos para que no deje que se aprovechen de mí. Esto me asustó un poco pero igual me dejó más preparada para mi siguiente experiencia 😅.
The owners of this hostel told me that the time I have to do this is completely at my discretion. They told me that as long as I feel comfortable and at ease, I can stay as long as I need. I have colleagues who have been in the province of San Juan for months, but who are slowly completing their cycle here and will soon move to another place. I don't know when this cycle will be completed for me, but at the moment I have several places I want to visit so it will probably be a few more days. I quite liked this modality and it is the first time that almost a month has passed on the trip: I hope it will be repeated many more times and I will be able to show myself everything I set out to do ❤️.
Los dueños de este hostel me dijeron que el tiempo que tengo para hacer esto queda completamente a mi criterio. Ellos me dijeron que mientras me sienta cómoda y a gusto, me puedo quedar el tiempo que necesite. Tengo compañeros que estan en la provincia de San Juan hace meses, pero que lentamente van cumpliendo su ciclo acá y pronto se moverán a otro lugar. Yo no sé cuando este ciclo se terminará de cumplir para mí, pero por el momento tengo apuntados varios lugares que quiero conocer así que seguramente sean algunos días más. Me gustó bastante esta modalidad y es la primera vez que pasó casi un mes de viaje: espero que se repita muchas veces más y poder mostrarme a mí misma todo lo que me propuse ❤️.
