Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to complain a little bit about blocking things!

Why can't websites just work?!!?
I've been on the VPN train for several years now.. not even trying to hide things but mainly to not let these vampires in the data broker company scheme take my stuff and sell it, building all kinds of profiles on me and shit. I know it's inevitable, but making it as hard for them as possible is the name of the game.
With using VPN's, there are certainly a few things that end up happening. You have to deal with a connection that is potentially a little bit slower than it should be because the stuff is getting re-routed to other places. Convenience is a killer though, so we can't let ourselves fall into the convenience trap.
Every now and then though, there are things that happen that are just fucking annoying. When websites won't work because the damn company I am trying to access blocks the traffic, that's when my frustration level rises!
In a way I get it.. they think they are protecting their customers. Maybe they are and I am clueless to the broader cyber security landscape when it comes to this stuff, but I think it's challenging when my VPN is within the country, but the specific location of the damn node guarantees my traffic is blocked.
I won't say the location of the node, but I unfortunately realized today that this specific location fucking sucks lol. One of my major websites that I visit routinely for personal things completely refuses the connection if it's using that server. It's annoying, but I just re-route it to another server in a different location and I'm good.
Tonight though, I had another run in with this particular location.. and it makes me wonder. Do these companies have something against the people in this particular place? Hahaha. People do live there.. yet these sites refuse to communicate to servers that are in that place. How does that work? It's not like I'm connecting to something from Uzbekistan lol
Getting blocked from accessing a site because you are using a connection from a specific location is pretty annoying, especially when the location is within the United States. One of these days I am going to look up online why companies do this, I know the likely reason but I have to ask my friend that works in cybersecurity if he can give me a better answer than the scripted web search bullshit that I will likely find.
Rerouting traffic to different places seems to be the name of the game here.. so I'm hoping this doesn't happen with increased frequency or I will for sure be complaining more LOL. I tried reporting the broken site to the VPN company, hopefully the request actually goes somewhere but you never know.
What about you, do you have situations where you are blocked from doing something unexpectedly? How did you resolve it? Let me know in the comments!
