Today I wanted to let loose a little bit about kids books and the nonsense they add to them!
Not In A Kids Book
There are some things that we need to make sure we don't keep exposing kids to.
I know that the world is a changing place. There is nothing more constant than change, but there are a lot of things that change that are not for the best of us all. This is for sure one of them.
My son has been getting into more fantasy books and moving away from the little kid stuff we could get away with before. That's okay because I am able to thoroughly enjoy reading to him, where we can dive into the books and genres that I loved as a kid, and I can foster and feed his little soul with wonder and imagination that I also enjoyed.
I know it's hard for some people to avoid controversial topics, but one of the things that frustrates me the most is when they make subtle jabs to kids minds with this shit.
The author felt the need to insert quite a few statements about skin color in the book and that really annoyed me. I skipped over the parts because it adds absolutely nothing to the story. The normal things like saying the main old lady was an old black lady was fine. We need some context in that regard. When they talk about not wanting to make themselves noticed because they are black, and don't make a scene because they are persecuted, that's where things really pissed me off.
If you want to change things in terms of how people think of others, especially kids, don't constantly insert things to remind them about how some people in the world are racist. A non-fiction book? Sure, have at it! Throw it in there but you will have the vantage point of knowing that it is a factual book, where you are supposed to learn things. A kids fantasy book about fucking magic? Get the hell out of here with that noise! Make the characters black, Indian, Japanese or whatever the hell you want but cut the horse shit with inserting things to expose kids to information that has nothing to do with the story. Stick to writing FANTASY without inserting any of the nasty adult perspectives.
That aspect of the book was annoying, but it threw me over the edge this evening when we were reading it and they went past, and tried to insert some they/them dogma bullshit. The WOMAN teacher was named "Mx" some shit or another, instead of Mr or Ms and now I am at the point where this lady has lost me completely as a parent buying their books. I'm glad that this is the last book in the series, because I will for sure refuse to buy anything else that they are selling for the simple fact that they can't just stick to writing, they have to insert their political and ideological agenda into the kids material.
I think this is for sure where this world is going wrong. People are turning themselves into activists in almost every aspect of society, and a lot of it is not beneficial. Confusing kids by making up pronouns to further confuse and butcher the English language is arrogant at a minimum, to make someone else participate in their fantasy.
I think that it's important we teach kids to do what they do innately: don't see any of the bullshit that we adults do in terms of race, skin color, appearance or any of it. They see people for who they are, not what group they fit into and it's constantly adults who are trying to break that fragile innocence that they maintain for the early parts of their lives. It feels to me like social engineering in a lot of ways, because it does not breed many things that are good, instead foments and encourages division, fear and judgment in people where there was not before when it comes to kids.
