This is not a rant or complaint, but rather a self-talk. :D
Last year, we went to the South of Spain where we passed by Biarritz in the South of France. It was already past midnight when I saw a road sign stating, "Camino de Santiago." Eventually, we were in the northwest of Spain and could not help but always think about it.
I've read some articles about how many people do their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. At first, I wanted to do the walk. I posted something on my Facebook if somebody would be interested in doing the Camino de Santiago. Two or three responded to me that it is one of their bucket lists. One Filipino who lives in the UK responded that she wanted to do it together with me. One Filipino guy who is in the PH is hoping he could do the Camino someday. Another Filipino guy wants to do it when he gets the chance to be in Europe.
At least, I thought I was not a crazy Filipina girl who wanted to do this. This is not a crazy idea after all but I think an ambitious one.
I told my husband about this. Although I am not really a religious person nor a devoted Catholic, he knows I love to visit Roman Catholic churches. It's easy to go there by car but I want it challenging.
Since I got an e-bike, I searched if it is possible to do it by bike. I found this YouTube video which I gladly finished from beginning to end.
More information from my research
Got this article from Cycle Fiesta, a guide for Camino de Santiago Camino Frances.
Here's a Self-Guided Cycling Tour for 8 days: here
Preparations to do the Cycling Tour
- Physically, mentally, and emotionally ready
- Money
- Extra time and days not thinking about anything but myself
- Preparing some items I need to bring during the cycling tour
I have no problem preparing the other three, except MONEY. Hahaha!
I told you how really ambitious this is if I want to do this.
Part of me wants to do this solo but I also want other people can join me or maybe I join a company tour with other cyclists.
My Experience with Solo Travel
I rented a motorbike in Hpa-an, Myanmar while traveling solo. So, I was thinking that it is possible for me to navigate the northwest of Spain all my way to Santiago de Compostela.
I also did biking in Taipei, Taiwan but it is more on short distances. Still, I know my resistance to biking, how much more of an e-bike?
I had experience biking near Inle Lake in Myanmar for less than 60 kilometers. A part of me is confident to do 4-5 hours of biking in a day.
Now that I'm a mother
I'm also worried about being gone for a week without my kids seeing me. That's why if this ambition comes true, I would be glad to do this with a traveling friend.
Why am I writing this?
Well, I believe in the power of manifestation. I am someone who loves to write about what I want to do someday. Mostly, I wrote it on Facebook. It's funny how those FB memories re-surfaced on my timeline and I was surprised to see that it really happened and I did it. Anyway, if this won't happen by e-bike, will go by car instead with the family. Hehe!
That's it for today's self-talk
How about you, are you interested in doing the Camino de Santiago?
