My thoughts on buying Hive during it’s bear market trend
Catching a falling knife
One issue with buying Hive during this bearish trend is you don’t know how far from the floor you are. So never spend all your available buying power at once. I have learned this the hard way more than once. Hive can always fall lower than you think it will fall. But in general it also will eventually cycle back up.
Hive is a cyclical appreciating and depreciating asset
One of the good things about investing in Hive at the bottom of a bear market, is that it is historically a cyclical and appreciating asset, so if you hold it long term you will encounter periods of depreciation and appreciation. Ideally you add to your HivePower during bear markets, selling your HBD earnings for Hive and then enjoy increased earnings of Hive during bull markets, and save your HBD to earn 15-20% APR and build your HBD reserves to purchase more Hive during the next bear market. So far in the six plus years I have been here this has been the pattern. So I am giving you the gift of my experience here on Hive, so you can make better decisions then I did :)
Hive is an income producing asset.
No discussion of Hive would be complete without discussing the fact that it is an income producing asset.
You can earn by upvoting posts and comments, call curation. This can be done actively by manually clicking the upvote button, or passively by delegating your HivePower to an active curator, of which there are many. They do the manual voting and pay you 90% of the earnings.
Delegation is a decentralized finance smart contract on Hive
This tool, is one smart contract on Hive which predated the whole decentralized finance summer billion dollar market from two summers ago.
Hive had Smart Contracts, before everyone discovered how innovative they were. It’s funny in a way how innovative Hive was and still is…
Hive still has human readable account names, in wallet staking, in wallet savings accounts and multiple passwords. These features are far more advanced then what you will find on Bitcoin or Ethereum.
The future
While no one can predict the future, but the longterm viability of Hive is suggested by its longevity.
The community has been here for over six years, and although it’s price cycles with the cryptocurency market, past history would suggest that its price will recover.
