I believe that our tour of those points further away from the city of Ushuaia could not have been complete if we did not stop to buy some souvenirs. I always say that I don't so much like to take the classic souvenirs from the tourist places I go to, but every once in a while I like to buy something that is symbolic for me. Luckily, the tour I booked included a stop to do some shopping, but not in the classic gift store, but in a mountain gin shop. And there I really wanted to take a little souvenir 😅.
Creo que nuestro tour por aquellos puntos más alejados de la ciudad de Ushuaia no podría haber estado completo si no parabamos a comprar algunos souvenirs. Siempre digo que no me gusta tanto llevar los clásicos recuerdos de los lugares turísticos a los que voy, pero de tanto en tanto me gusta comprar algo que sea simbólico para mí. Por suerte, el tour que contraté incluía una parada para hacer algo de shopping, pero no en la tienda clásica de regalos, sino en una gintonería de montaña. Y ahí sí que me dieron ganas de llevarme un pequeño recuerdo 😅.
The tour we booked with three other people included a guided tour by Sandra, a neighbor of the city of Ushuaia. She takes tourists with her private vehicle for a much lower price than the classic tourist agencies. I really liked this dynamic because I did not feel that this tour is commercial, but rather for pleasure and to get to know the city from the hand of a resident. Sandra was in charge of taking us to different points of Ushuaia to see beautiful landscapes, and she also made a short stop at a mountain shopping center, where there was a restaurant, a cafeteria, a snow equipment rental for the season and also a gin distillery 😃.
El paseo que contratamos junto a otras tres personas incluía un paseo guiado por Sandra, una vecina de la ciudad de Ushuaia. Ella con su vehículo particular lleva a pasear turistas por un precio mucho más bajo que en las clásicas agencias de turistas. Esta dinámica me gustó mucho porque no sentí que este paseo sea comercial, sino más bien por gusto y para que conozcamos la ciudad de la mano de una residente. Sandra se encargó de llevarnos a distintos puntos de Ushuaia para que veamos paisajes hermosos, y también hizo una pequeña parada en un centro comercial de montaña, en donde había un restaurant, una cafetería, un rental de equipos de nieve para la temporada y también una destilería de gin 😃.
Among all the businesses mentioned, my walking companions and I of course gravitated towards the gin distillery. This was a small store manned by Alfred, its owner and also the face of the brand. He gave us a brief explanation about his space: his idea is for this place to be a haven for those who travel the world by motorcycle. As drinking and driving do not go hand in hand, he has this little refuge for visitors to stay a while to taste the gin he makes and then they can continue their route 😃.
Entre todos los negocios mencionados, mis compañeros de paseo y yo por supuesto nos inclinamos hacia la destilería de gin. Esta era una pequeña tienda atendida por Alfred, su dueño y también la cara de la marca. El nos hizo una breve explicación sobre su espacio: su idea es que este lugar sea un paraje para quienes recorren el mundo en moto. Como beber y manejar no van de la mano, él tiene este pequeño refugio para que los visitantes se queden un rato a degustar los gin que elabora y luego puedan continuar su ruta 😃.
I don't ride motorcycles, but I know the part about drinking gin. I do love this drink and I think that since I am slowly approaching 30 years old I started to drink it more frequently on my rides. Alfred's store had a wide variety of gin in fruity, herbal and also classic gin flavors. In addition, he makes other flavored liqueurs that looked excellent. He let us try as many as we wanted, which I always think is a good idea because it is what convinces the customer to buy your product 😃.
Yo motos no manejo, pero la parte de tomar gin sí que me la sé. Esta bebida sí que me encanta y creo que desde que lentamente me estoy acercando a los 30 años empecé a consumirla más frecuentemente en mis salidas. La tienda de Alfred contaba con una gran variedad de gin de sabores frutales, hierbas y también gin clásicos. Además, él prepara otros licores saborizados que se veían excelentes. Nos dejó probar los que quisieramos, lo que siempre me parece una buena idea porque es lo que termina de convencer al cliente para que compre tu producto 😃.
That day I tasted several gins, strawberry, lemon, orange, peach and even rose. All of them were delicious, but the one I liked the most was the mandarin and that's why I decided to buy a bottle so I could keep trying it later. This 250 ml presentation cost me 4000 ARS ($4), which was not so expensive because I already knew it was very good. Also, I think Alfred definitely sold us his product very well while telling us travel stories and being very friendly. It definitely made me want to contribute to his business 💕.
Ese día probé varios gins, de frutilla, limón, naranja, durazno e incluso de rosas. Todos estaban deliciosos, pero el que más me gustó fue el de mandarina y por eso decidí comprar una botella para poder seguir probándolo más tarde. Esta presentación de 250 ml me costó 4000 ARS ($4), lo que no me resultó tan costoso porque ya sabía que era muy bueno. Además, creo que definitivamente Alfred nos vendió muy bien su producto al mismo tiempo que nos contaba historias de viaje y era muy amigable. Definitivamente me dieron ganas de contribuir con su negocio 💕.
What was most amusing to me was that my fellow walkers, casual travelers, thought I was buying this gin to take home as a souvenir. What they didn't know at the time was that I had a very long nomadic journey ahead of me and that I wasn't about to let that gin leave Ushuaia. What's more, it didn't even last 24 hours in my possession because that very night we drank it with the hostel guests while playing dice and cards. We all agreed on the same thing: the tangerine gin was a very good choice ❤️.
Lo que me causó más gracia es que mis compañeros de paseo, viajeros ocasionales, creían que yo estaba comprando este gin para llevarlo de recuerdo a mi casa. Lo que ellos no sabían en ese momento es que yo tenía un viaje nómade muy largo por delante y que no pensaba dejar que ese gin se fuera de Ushuaia. Es más, ni siquiera duró 24 horas en mi poder porque esta misma noche lo tomamos con los huéspedes del hostel mientras jugabamos dados y cartas. Todos coincidimos en lo mismo: el gin de mandarina fue una muy buena elección ❤️.
