Exploring Grocery Places in BKK
In this market Friday, I am sharing some of the finds that I found across 7/11 and malls in Bangkok. This capital of Thailand certainly has a lot of things to offer but mainly shopping malls. If you are into ultra-modernized living and are into fast-paced life, Bangkok is the way to go. In Bangkok or BKK, there are many mega shopping malls. Even the small shopping malls aren’t small at all. They are maze-like and filled with food in every corner. In this post, I’ll show you some of the interesting things that I found while I was strolling through the malls and the things that I can’t find back home which is mostly through the groceries in Bangkok.
Lotus Grocery
It seems like there are a few big grocery stores in Thailand like Lotus and Top. The first grocery store I went to is called Lotus which is located inside a shopping mall. Lotus isn’t only a grocery store but they also have some pop up shops and cafes inside of it. At Lotus, it seems like it’s more local than Top grocery where they have various options of local flavors, spices and food. In this shopping mall, I found “weed” water and it is sold openly. What intrigued me the most is definitely the local pop up stall where they sell various green curry and also seaweed at just 20 Bath. There are also stalls where they sell clothes at a cheap price. I wouldn’t say they are actually cheap but considering that I am not a good bargainer, they are priced reasonably.
Top Grocery
If you are used to living in the western hemisphere, Tops Grocery is where to go. They have various western products but definitely slightly more expensive than Lotus grocery, max value and 7/11. They also sell various products from Japan and Korea where everything is double the price. So, unless you’re looking for a specific brand from the US, UK, or Korea, then it would just be better to shop at Lotus. They also don’t have local pop up shops unlike Lotus. However, they place the local shops just on the way to Tops. I eventually got some patterned blouses for my mom because they were priced quite reasonably too.
Seven Eleven
In every corner there is 7/11. Inside the store, they sell daily items and even food. With the legalization of cannabis, they also sell weed infused water. It’s always interesting to find because 7/11 has quite a bit of an option for a quick bite to an actual meal. It is also priced very reasonably where you can get a meal for less than 20 Bath. If you’re traveling on a budget, 7/11 is such a life savior. They can warm your meal, eat for cheap and you can literally spend less than 50 Bath for food/meal. I think in total in a day, to eat at 7/11 meal twice would be somewhere around 100-90 Bath.
All these groceries sell things that I don’t have back home. I love the dried fish snacks and back home they were a bit expensive, twice the price but here, with only 10 Baths, I could get smaller bags of it. They also have different Lays flavor and are more unique than where I am at home. All those groceries places are like a haven of snacks and the same with chocolates. It’s why I have been enjoying strolling around the groceries over here. They’re different and offers kinda unique experience to me. Not to mention what I notice about the shopping mall over here, when there's a local shop, they are priced extremely reasonably too.
