Hello all friends in the Market Friday community, this is my first post in this community, and it's really a shame even though I often travel and there are lots of traditional markets which are very unique and tourist destinations for tourists, but there aren't any. It's too late, and tonight I will share my experience of shopping at the souvenir market on Samosir Island, Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
What's unique is that to get to the souvenir market, we have to take a slow boat to Samosir Island. Approximately 30 minutes' journey, because Samosir Island is in the middle of Lake Toba, which is one of the largest lakes in Southeast Asia. And Samosir Island has many attractions starting from a very pleasant trip with extraordinary views, then after arriving at Samosir we will not only be treated to a souvenir market but also a cultural market. Where visitors have to wear the red ULOS BATAK cloth and dance around with other visitors. This is very exciting and we only need to pay the ulos rental as sincerely as we can.
What is sold at the traditional market at the Samosir market is fresh salted fish, which is often found in Lake Toba. If you go to Lake Toba you have to try the grilled fish. Oh yes, at the Samosir market, we can buy souvenirs at very cheap prices because the traders here are on average first hand of their merchandise. They make their own handicrafts ranging from necklaces, eagles, bags from water hyacinth, crafts from coconut shells, woven tomi, traditional clothing and many more which they sell, but unfortunately I don't have much documents for this, in the future when I'm going for a walk again and I'll share my experience with you in more detail.
Oh yes, expensive or cheap is very relative, but for me it would be if we could get a souvenir in the form of a key chain for Rp. 2,000 or the equivalent of 0.13 U$ dollars, is that an expensive price? I don't think so and you can judge for yourself.
Greetings from Maytom, Indonesia
