There is a lot about disorders if we want to begin to analyze them one after another, but today I will be love to write on ADHD which stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, to me it is not something that is really common but that may just be limited to my environment or level of exposure, so we will find out more about the disorder as we go into more details. ADHD is a brain disorder that affects how attention is being paid to things, sitting position, and behavioral control, this attitude can happen in children, and teens and grow until adulthood.
While I am thinking about ADHD as being less common, research has proven that it is the most commonly diagnosed mental disorder that exists in children, the male gender is more common to have it than the female gender, often spotted during school early years when the child begins to experience difficulty in paying attention. ADHD cannot be cured or prevented, however, spotting it on time accompanied by efficient treatment and a good educational plan in place will help the child or the adult manage the symptoms of ADHD. It would be a great idea for us to check through some of the symptoms quickly;

Inattention, means the person may find it difficult to stay on task, sustain focus, and remain organized, these problems are not as a result of defiance or as a result of the lack of comprehension.
Hyperactivity, means the person may appear to constantly move about, even in an environment where it is not ideal to do so, fidgeting excessively, talking, and tapping, in adults the adult may behave in a restless manner and talk too much.
Impulsivity, could mean two things, the first is that it means the individual would act without thinking or may not have the ability for self-control, and secondly, is when the person makes certain decisions without considering long-term effects.
As people get older things change, likewise the associated symptoms of ADHD as well, the symptoms include; anxiety, low self-esteem, impulsiveness, difficulty controlling anger, forgetting things a lot, problems while at work, procrastination, mood swings, relationship issues, and depression.
Several factors can contribute to ADHD, the factors include;
- Genes and ADHD sometimes run in families.
- Brain changes, usually that brain area responsible for the control of less active attention in kids with ADHD.
- Brain chemicals, which are usually out of balance in people with ADHD. Contrary to some opinions, sugar is not a cause for ADHD, it also isn't caused by excessive addiction to television, poor school, food allergies, and a stressful home.
There are certain risk factors that can play a significant role in the development of ADHD, and some of them have the ability to affect the development of a baby's brain during pregnancy; smoking, infections, poor nutrition, alcohol, and substance abuse. Other things that can affect a child's brain development after birth are; exposure to toxins like lead, when the child is born prematurely, a brain disorder or brain injury, high consumption of diets with sugar, nutritional deficiency, and food additives. Not all types of ADHD are the same, they are different from one another in some way, there are three (3) types of ADHD;
Primarily Inattentive ADHD: The people who have the inattentive subtype of ADHD find it difficult to focus, follow instructions or finish tasks, these people are usually easily forgetful and get distracted on time, they could be daydreamers who lose track of cellphones, homework, and daydreaming.
Primarily hyperactive (Impulsive): The people who have the impulsive type of ADHD act as though they are driven by a particular force with little impulse control as they squirm and talk even when it isn't appropriate, they are impatient, impulsive and they interrupt others.
Primarily combined type ADHD: The people who have a combined type of ADHD often exhibit a mixture of ADHD.
Conlusion.
ADHD can make it difficult for us to deal with life challenges every day, children could find it difficult to learn or develop any skill, and the disorder could result in low self-esteem, disorders, and conflicts with those around them.
Treatment options for ADHD.
I mentioned earlier in this post that there is no cure for ADHD, but the available treatments could reduce symptoms and aid functionality.
Medication: In so many cases, ADHD medications would reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity, at the same time, they would improve the ability to focus, learn and work. Regularly, different dosages of medications have to be tried before the right one would be found for a particular person, a person taking the medication has to be closely monitored by the doctor in charge.
Stimulants: This is the most common type of medication used for the treatment of ADHD, it works by increasing brain chemicals (norepinephrine and dopamine) which play a significant role in thinking and attention. Stimulants like medications have their side effects, especially when their taken in an overdose form or when used inappropriately.
Non-stimulants: There are few other ADHD medications that are non-stimulants, they usually take a longer time to begin to work compared to stimulants but they can also help improve attention, focus, and impulsivity in a person with ADHD.
Psychotherapy and psychosocial interventions: Lots of psychosocial interventions have helped out people with ADHD. In some children, frustration, and anger may have built up before diagnosis, and a specialist may be required to help overcome that feeling of negativity, the child and his parents will also be trained on developing new skills, developing new attitudes, and different ways of reacting to each other.
Behavioural therapy: This therapy aims to help with behavioral change, it teaches people how to monitor their own behavior, and give themselves the praise or rewards for acting in a certain way, such as controlling anger or thinking before going ahead to ask.
Cognitive behavioral therapy.
Family and marital therapy.
Parenting skills training.
Being organized is a strong issue for those who have ADHD, but these directions could help out;
- Keeping a routine and a schedule.
- Organizing your items every day.
- The use of notebook and homework organizers.
- Become clear and consistent.
- Try to organize items on a daily.
- Give praise to the people with ADHD, as children who have the condition always feel unacceptable or unwanted.
Conclusion.
It becomes more difficult to treat longer ADHD as it lasts more in the human body, children could have difficulty learning or developing social skills, and when this happens adults could have difficulty with addictions and relationship issues. This disorder could result in conflicts, depression, mood swings, low self-esteem, and eating disorders.
