The dark forest, the paradox of Enrico Fermi.

The dark forest is one of the hypotheses that would explain the Fermi paradox. Enrico Fermi, who was a physicist of the last century, as a joke, brought up the paradox by analyzing a little the circumstance of, "if even without taking into account the possibility of traveling faster than light, let us assume that you cannot travel faster than light", even so an intelligent species could go from one star system to another in a relatively acceptable range of years, for example, if its ship goes at half the speed of light or reaches a fraction of the speed of light, it could reach nearest star systems and colonize them, and after two, three or four million years it could statistically colonize all the planets in the galaxy.
While that of the Dark Forest proposes the hypothesis that our cosmic neighborhood is dangerous, it would be full of intelligent civilizations that are hostile and silent to avoid arrest by possible predators. This didn't make much sense, first, because if there are predators, few would remain silent and hidden; second, because this raises the possibility that our radio signals are making known the existence of the Earth and of life on Earth and of human beings, but in reality the existence of life on Earth for a technological civilization a little more advanced than ours, only a little, I am not talking about civilizations that are advanced hundreds of thousands of years or millions of years, which would be logical, on a cosmic scale, but a couple of centuries more advanced than ours.

For more than 2 billion years, the Earth can be detected in the universe, at least in our galaxy, as a place with life, so if there really was an intelligent civilization that said, "Hey, we can't travel faster than light, but we have detected that there is life here and since we are the predators of the dark forest, it would be better to send something and exterminate that life as soon as possible," well, they would have exterminated us a long time ago.
