A new toy has arrived! or, perhaps a new workload?
I recently asked my work manager to get a Raspberry Pi for me as I have to test a new software I have built to function as a remote node deployed in microcomputers such as Raspberry Pi.
I wasn't expecting a brand new and latest version but to my surprise, a Raspberry Pi 5 arrived today in a full kit.
Raspberry Pi 5
The Raspberry Pi 5 is a supercharged computer that's up to three times faster than the previous model. It uses a powerful Broadcom BCM2712 quad-core processor and can have up to 8GB of RAM, making it the best-performing Raspberry Pi yet.
It supports dual 4K displays, has faster USB 3.0 ports, and includes a PCIe slot for adding high-speed drives like M.2 SSDs. It also comes with handy features like a power button and a real-time clock, along with official accessories like a case with a fan and a strong power supply to keep everything running smoothly.
Unboxing
The kit comes with the following:
- Raspberry Pi 5 w/ 8GB of RAM
- Heatsink with built-in fan
- 32GB SD Card
- ABS Plastic Casing with Fan
- Chip Heatsink
- Charger
Assembly
Here comes the fun part—assembling the toy!
I started by attaching the big heatsink with a built-in fan on top of the Raspberry Pi 5. When I tried to put it inside the case, I ran into a problem.s
The built-in fan of the case didn’t fit anymore with the big heatsink attached. So, I had to choose between the two. Naturally, I chose the big heatsink with the fan over the small fan.
By simply using a popsicle stick, I was able to detach the top cover together with the fan mounting.
Now, there is room for the big heatsink and I can finally close the casing.
Here is what it looks like after the casing assembly.
I also added the rubber pads so it won't slide easily.
Features
Raspberry Pi 5 has 2x USB 3.0 ports, 2x USB 2.0 ports, and a Gigabit Ethernet port.
What I like the most, is the reset button. It is not in the previous versions of Raspberry Pi!
Here I'm showing the USB-C power input and the two HDMI micro ports that enable dual 4K Displays!
New Toy
Now, it will just sit happily on my desk together with my fidget toys haha!
