Scientists working on exploring the submarine canyons near Ningaloo in the Indian Ocean have just announced the discovery of a new species of organism which is over 150 foot long, or around 45 meters in length!
To be fair, it is not one animal technically as this is a massive gelatinous string siphonophore, which can be defined as a
floating colony of tiny individual zooids that clone themselves thousands of times into specialised bodies that string together to work as a team – estimated to be 150-foot long (45.72 metre)
The US-based philanthropic, non-profit Schmidt Ocean Institute, announced further that
We suspected these deep sea areas would be diverse but we have been blown away by the significance of what we have seen
But this is only one of the findings from the deep sea announced lately which takes the number of newly discovered species to over 30, which were discovered by Western Australian Museum scientists in the recent past.
The wonders of the oceans are now being discovered and we expect more species to be discovered in the future.
