En esta ocasión me llamaron de un Hospital Militar de mi ciudad para revisar un Ventilador de soporte avanzado, este equipo se usa para mantener con vida a las personas que por alguna razón u otra, no sean capaces de ejecutar su función respiratoria de manera normal. El ventilador de soporte avanzado es un equipo para el soporte vital del paciente y se usa mayormente en UNIDADES DE CUIDADOS CRITICOS (UCI)
Very good morning from Venezuela friends and friends of #hive today I want to share with you something of my profession, I mentioned before that I am dedicated to the repair and maintenance of biomedical technologies. This time I was called from a Military Hospital in my city to check an Advanced Support Ventilator, this equipment is used to keep alive people who for some reason or another, are not able to perform their respiratory function normally. The advanced support ventilator is an equipment for life support of the patient and is used mostly in CRITICAL CARE UNITS (ICU).
La ventilación mecánica es todo aquel procedimiento donde la respiración se lleva a cabo de forma artificial. Por lo general se una un equipo de alta tecnología como el VENTILADOR DE SOPORTE AVANZADO con el cual se reemplaza la función respiratoria fisiológica del paciente.
Mechanical ventilation is any procedure where breathing is carried out artificially. Usually a high-tech equipment such as an ADVANCED SUPPORT VENTILATOR is used to replace the patient's physiological respiratory function.

Este equipo tiene un funcionamiento neumático controlado por microprocesadores internos. También poseen un software mediante el cual el operario puede manipular los parámetros ventilatorios y seleccionar la mejor configuración para el paciente. En la siguiente imagen les mostraré el ventilador de soporte vital que tuve que revisar para su reparación.
The mechanical life support ventilator is the equipment used to replace the ventilatory function of the patient. This equipment has a pneumatic operation controlled by internal microprocessors. They also have software through which the operator can manipulate the ventilatory parameters and select the best settings for the patient. In the following image I will show you the life support ventilator that I had to overhaul for repair.
Fotografía originalEl ventilador de soporte vital tiene conexiones y mangueras internas. Los gases que utiliza para su funcionamiento son Oxigeno y aire comprimido. Cuando el equipo se conectaba con los gases medicinales, un ruido fuerte sonaba adentro, como si tuviera una fuga de gas. Inmediatamente pensé que había una conexión interna rota. Otro dato que me hizo sospechar de la fuga es que en la pantalla del ventilador se pueden ver unas curvas ventilatorias y gráficas que representan flujo, presión y volumen. El equipo no lograba realizar su ciclo normal y las gráficas eran irregulares. Allí fue donde decidí desarmar el equipo para revisar el hardware.
The life support ventilator has internal connections and hoses. The gases it uses for its operation are oxygen and compressed air. When the equipment was connected to the medical gases, a loud noise sounded inside, as if it was leaking gas. I immediately thought that there was a broken internal connection. Another fact that made me suspect the leak was that on the ventilator's display you could see some ventilatory curves and graphs representing flow, pressure and volume. The equipment could not perform its normal cycle and the graphs were irregular. That was when I decided to disassemble the equipment to check the hardware.

Fotografía originalDespués de probar algunos componentes electrónicos con el multimetro y verificar que la mainboard estuviera operativa, pude ver que la conexión de Aire comprimido esta rota. Quería compartirles esa imagen pero se me borro del teléfono de forma extraña. La solución a la falla del equipo fue reemplazar la conexión de aire comprimido, posteriormente se armó y se realizaron las calibraciones de sensor de presión y sensor flujo. El equipo quedó operativo, listo para ser usado y seguir salvando vidas.
After testing some electronic components with the multimeter and verifying that the mainboard was operational, I could see that the compressed air connection is broken. I wanted to share this image with you but it was strangely deleted from my phone. The solution to the failure of the equipment was to replace the compressed air connection, then it was assembled and the pressure sensor and flow sensor calibrations were performed. The equipment was operational, ready to be used and continue saving lives.
