Una versión en Español...
Por un lado, tenemos a un gatito que es incapaz de permanecer quieto por más de dos segundos consecutivos. Es un "niño" hermoso pero que en casi dos años desde que él llegó a mi vida desde la fría y dura calle, jamás he podido verlo completamente satisfecho de comer... El otro, es un pequeño terremoto. Lleno de posesividad y con un carácter único y complementa salvaje. Ambos, son el complemento de mi existencia; mis dos "niños varones"; mis "bebés".
Y es que durante estos días de lluvias sin cesar en Venezuela, me he tomado el trabajo de prestarle más atención de la que ya les dedico a estos dos pequeñitos... "Michito" es el gatito rubio/blanquito con ojos rasgados azules y pequeñas marchitas grisáceos y el que parece estar cerca de la Luna es William; un pequeño puma salvaje que jamás podrá ser domesticado del todo. Son una combinación difícil de aceptar, debo confesar...
Michito es el amor y la ternura hecha gatito. Siempre ronroneando y "hablándote", muy al estilo "I got meow!" (Que en Paz descanse) y siendo una criaturita adorable que se deja mimar y bañar con gesto plácido pero que sí te descuidas a comerse toda las croquetas de gato y el pollo que se encuentre sin sentir el menor remordimiento. Asimismo, William es el opuedt necesario de este dúo peludito y hermoso. Él es más serio, independiente y completamente salvaje. No ha perdido su impronta indomable y desde cachorro disfruta el aislamiento y las alturas como símil entre su grandeza ancestral felina y nuestra debilidad por amarlos a ellos.
Como buenos gatitos que son, detestan el agua. Sobre todo la que ha caído durante estos días en toda Venezuela. Estamos e plena época de lluvias. Nuestros veranos son una combinación bipolar entre día soleados y tardes cargadas de lloviznas y lluvias que no dudan en precipitarse en cualquier dirección. Quienes tenemos gatitos podemos atestiguar que ellos detestan el agua; y más aún la de lluvia. Curiosamente, en una de esas treguas entre chaparrones, ambos, desde distintos ángulos de la casa, decidieron dejar la comodidad el escondite y salieron a buscar comida...
Fue mi hija la que me recordó que, aunque costó muchísimo, al final los "niños' terminaron tolerándose y aceptándose. Especialmente Wil, que jamás ha claudicado con su autoritarismo felino. Con el tiempo y un poco de paciencia, ambos pudieron adaptarse a otro y respetarse. Especialmente, en cuanto al resgusrdo de sus respectivos territorios. Quería capturar algunas fotos de ellos juntos pero fue imposible. Michito no sabe quedarse quieto un instante. Puede que la foto que ven en la portada sea la más detallada de sus hermosos ojos azules.
De sus travesuras y personalidades he aprendido que el amor es sumamente curioso y complicado. He amado a los animales desde siempre pero les juro, que jamás me vi, cuidando a dos gatitos, dos gatitas, un par de tortugas de tierra; un pez y una nena próxima a cumplir 9 años de edad... No es cosa fácil pero por nada del mundo cambiaría lo que tengo. Son mi alegría y la calidez de mis días y existencia. Son el confort que se espera de un hogar y la risa contagiante y cómplice de una vida que solo es mejor porque ellos están. Esa es la conexión entre mis dos "niños hermosos" y mi vida. Una excusa más para presumirlos (muy orgullosa).
An English side of this story...
On one side, we have a kitten who is unable to sit still for more than two consecutive seconds. He is a beautiful ‘boy’ but in almost two years since he came into my life from the cold, hard street, I have never been able to see him completely satisfied with eating... The other is a little earthquake. Full of possessiveness and with a unique and complementary wild character. Both are the complement of my existence; my two ‘boys’; my ‘babies’.
And it is that during these days of non-stop rain in Venezuela, I have taken the trouble to pay more attention than I already do to these two little ones... ‘Michito’ is the blond/white kitten with blue slit eyes and little greyish wilts and the one who seems to be close to the moon is William; a little wild puma who can never be completely tamed. They are a difficult combination to accept, I must confess...
Michito is love and tenderness made kitten. Always purring and ‘talking to you’, very much in the ‘I got meow!’ style, and being an adorable little creature who lets himself be pampered and bathed with a placid gesture but who, if you neglect him, will eat all the cat kibble and chicken he can find without feeling the slightest remorse. William is also the necessary opposite of this beautiful, furry duo. He is more serious, independent and completely wild. He has not lost his indomitable streak and from puppyhood he enjoys isolation and heights as a simile between his ancestral feline greatness and our weakness for loving them.
Like the good kittens they are, they hate water. Especially the water that has fallen during these days all over Venezuela. We are in the middle of the rainy season. Our summers are a bipolar combination of sunny days and afternoons full of drizzle and rain that do not hesitate to fall in any direction. Those of us with kittens can attest to the fact that they detest water, especially rain. Curiously, in one of those lulls between downpours, both of them, from different corners of the house, decided to leave the comfort of their hiding place and went out to look for food....
It was my daughter who reminded me that, although it took a lot of effort, in the end the ‘children’ ended up tolerating and accepting each other. Especially Wil, who has never given in to his feline authoritarianism. With time and a little patience, both were able to adapt to each other and respect each other. Especially when it came to respecting their respective territories. I wanted to capture some photos of them together but it was impossible. Michito doesn't know how to sit still for a moment. Maybe the photo you see on the cover is the most detailed picture of their beautiful blue eyes.
From their antics and personalities I have learned that love is extremely curious and complicated. I have always loved animals but I swear, I have never seen myself taking care of two kittens, two little cats, a couple of land tortoises, a fish and a girl about to turn 9 years old.... It's not easy, but I wouldn't change what I have for the world. They are my joy and the warmth of my days and existence. They are the comfort expected of a home and the contagious laughter and accomplice of a life that is only better because they are there. That is the connection between my two ‘beautiful children’ and my life. One more excuse to show them off (very proudly).
