When I first arrived in Ushuaia, I had to do a not very nice shift as a volunteer receptionist in the hostel. This was in the afternoon, which is my least favourite time of the day, as it cuts off the whole day for any other activity. However, despite this complicated schedule from 2 to 6 PM, everything was not too bad. The afternoons at that time in the hostel were very quiet because all the guests were out and about, and that's when I could take advantage of the silence of the place with my shy companion Nezuko ❤️.
Cuando recién había llegado a Ushuaia, tuve que cumplir un turno no muy lindo como recepcionista voluntaria en el hostel. Este horario era por la tarde, el que menos me gusta hacer ya que te corta todo el día como para hacer cualquier otro actividad. Sin embargo, a pesar de este horario complicado de 2 a 6 PM, no todo estuvo tan mal. Las tardes a esa hora en el hostel eran muy silenciosas porque todos los huéspedes estaban de paseo, y ahí era cuando podía aprovechar el silencio del lugar con mi tímida acompañante Nezuko ❣️.
Life in a hostel, living with strangers all the time, is an experience in itself. While doing my work-for-housing exchanges, I got to share common spaces with many people. This mostly meant good times of socialising and sharing experiences, but I don't deny that sometimes I needed a bit of silence. For those moments it was great to work in the evening when everything was very quiet.
La vida en hostel, conviviendo todo el tiempo con desconocidos, es toda una experiencia en sí misma. Mientras hacía mis intercambios de trabajo por alojamiento, me tocó compartir espacios comunes con mucha gente. Esto la mayoría de las veces significó buenos momentos de sociabilización y compartir experiencias, pero no niego que a veces necesitaba un poco de silencio. Para esos momentos fue que me vino genial trabajar por la tarde cuando todo estaba muy tranquilo.

I worked at the hostel in the afternoon for about two months. This shift was really quiet as there were no guests, so I used it to do my Hive activities or watch a series on Netflix. As I had the morning free, I also took the opportunity to get an additional job and that's when I managed to work as a food engineer in a crab smokehouse. It wasn't all bad at that time, and the best part was that that's when the ‘Nezu’ felt like coming out of hiding.
Cumplí el horario por la tarde en el hostel durante unos dos meses. Realmente este turno era muy silencioso ya que no había huéspedes, por lo que yo lo aprovechaba para hacer mis actividades de Hive o ver alguna serie en Netflix. Como tenía la mañana libre, también aproveché para conseguir un trabajo adicional y fue ahí cuando logré trabajar de Ingeniera en Alimentos en un ahumadero de centolla. No todo era tan malo en ese horario, y lo mejor de todo era que era entonces cuando le "Nezu" tenía ganas de salir de su escondite.
For a cat living in a hostel, Nezuko is quite antisocial. Generally speaking, she always ran away when she saw a lot of people crowded together. That's why on quiet afternoons at work, it was just me and her. Sometimes she would come over to let me know when she wanted food, or when she needed to go outside to relieve herself. Even though I had been living with her for almost six months, she never got too close to me like a cuddly cat. Her attitude was always aloof, although on rare occasions she was eager for me to pet her.
Para ser un gato que vive en un hostel, Nezuko es bastante antisocial. En líneas generales, siempre huía cuando veía a mucha gente amontonada. Es por eso que por las tardes tranquilas de trabajo, solo éramos ella y yo. A veces se acercaba a avisarme que quería comida, o cuando necesitaba ir afuera para hacer sus necesidades. A pesar de que yo estuve casi seis meses conviviendo con ella, nunca se me acercó demasiado como un gato cariñoso. Su actitud siempre era distante, aunque en raras ocasiones tenía ganas de que la acaricie.

But Nezu's surly personality couldn't stop every guest who came to the hostel from wanting to pet her. Depending on her mood, sometimes she would come a little closer to them, but most of the time, she would run away. But she seemed to forget that she didn't like people when the night came and it was cold: there she didn't hesitate to go to sleep in anyone's bed, and of course no one said no. Who wouldn't want to sleep cuddled up to this little cuddly toy? Even I couldn't say no to that ❤️.
Pero la personalidad arisca de Nezu no podía impedir que todos los huéspedes que llegaban al hostel quisieran acariciarla. Dependiendo de su humor, a veces se acercaba un poco a ellos, pero la mayoría de las veces, salía corriendo. Pero parece que se olvidaba de que no le gustaba la gente cuando llegaba la noche y hacía frío: ahí no dudaba en ir a dormir a la cama de cualquiera, y por supuesto que nadie le decía que no. ¿Quién no querría dormir abrazado a este pequeño peluche? Ni siquiera yo podía negarme a eso ❤️.

Having a cat in a guest house is nice, although it does require some extra work vacuuming to avoid having hair everywhere. However, in all my long stay in Ushuaia, no one ever complained about her. My evenings with Nezu's company were a nice part of my entire stay in Ushuaia, and to this day I like to see pictures of her on the bed in one of the rooms. I hope she's having fun in the snow now, and hopefully she'll let herself be petted some more ❤️.
Que haya un gato en un alojamiento de huéspedes es lindo, aunque requiere algo de trabajo extra de pasar la aspiradora para evitar que hayan pelos por todas partes. Sin embargo, en toda mi larga estadía en Ushuaia, nunca nadie se quejó de ella. Mis tardes con la compañía de Nezu fueron una linda parte de todo mi paso en Ushuaia, y hasta el día de hoy me gusta ver como suben fotos de ella en la cama de alguna de las habitaciones. Espero que ahora se esté divirtiendo en la nieve, y con suerte, se deje acariciar un poco más ❤️.
