While growing up I always had a fear for dogs, in my childhood locality dogs were unnoticed and not much of care or attention was provided to them as we've cow as our goddess and pet and we really never put any assumptions that we could even pet other animals other then cows.
Now I see in my current locality we've a huge population of dogs and thru various websites and surveys have proven that India has the largest population of street dogs in the world and trust me, me being a citizen and resident I'm saying there is a lot of dogs and I really mean it alot.
There were alot of methods used to control dogs population, the most famous and cruel one I remember is killing them, whole world practiced this method for a short duration and trust me this wasn't an effective way and the government realized this after murdering alot of dogs. Anyways the newest method of controlling population is ABC program which explains it as capturing street dog and sterilizing and vaccinating them and releasing them in the exact same area.
My personal experience to this program is I've been living in this locality for past 3 years and in 3 years they've visited our area once in the first year also did not take every dog which lead to unwanted pregnancies and drastic increase in dog population which at last called for dogs being victims of harsh driving and other diseases also including the fact that they're multiplying in rapid speed.
This morning while going to office I saw a puppy eating rotten pumpkin seeds out of a dustbin, it literally breaks my heart to see animals in such condition where they search for food in dustbin. It was me and my friend and we immediately got a pack of biscuit and feed that puppy, but again this is not the solution for this huge problem. There are a bunch of shelters in this city but every shelter has their own protocol and they have made their non profit organizations into business and is just living on the money which donors provide for old dogs that has been virtually adopted by people. The ngo business is not willing to take new dogs in consideration as leaving the virtually adopted one can close their source of income and also those people who donate never ask for transparency from the ngo.
I for future have planned to dedicate few days for this issue and am going to get atleast of 10 dog steriliz because it is cruel of people to not taking responsibility for these voiceless animals.
