My dog was the perfect birthday gift to me last year and I couldn't imagine what could possibly top that for my next birthday. My husband kept joking that Panda would give me more puppies for my birthday this year because he didn't know what to get me. Well, let's say the jokes turned out to be a reality.
Panda is now a mother to 5 puppies who arrived on the 13th February, about a month to my birthday. We had initially gone for an ultrasound when we suspected her pregnancy and we expected at least 4 puppies. The gestation took 64 days and on the day of delivery, in a space of about 3 hours, all 5 puppies had come out.

We had anticipated the delivery the night before from the obvious labour signs and I stayed up for as long as I could until I left Panda, expecting I'd wake up to see the puppies. At about 7:10 am the next morning, we heard a loud cry from Panda and I rushed to find her on the floor with the first puppy out.
She had done the needful by pushing it out and breaking the sac but she must have panicked with the umbilical cord wrapped around her leg. I helped unwrap it and she cut it. The other four were quite a seamless process because she knew what to do immediately.

It was beautiful to watch nature happen, motherly instinct kicking in, and an animal carry out a birthing process like she studied midwifery in doggy school. She knew she should break the sac, cut the cord and clean up the puppies. Then came the protective instinct. Our vet showed up later and he swore Panda was going to bite him for holding her puppies if we didn't hold her down.
Panda took the form of a raging beast, we had never seen her like that before and it was clear shit was going to happen if she got hold of the vet. Apparently, only myself and my husband are permitted to be anywhere near her puppies.

There are 4 males and 1 female. They've added weight in the last 6 days of their lives from all the milk they've been having. I low-key still can't believe they're real and I'm overwhelmed with their cuteness. My feelings are nothing close to what Panda might be feeling ofcourse, the love in her eyes is unmatched and I love that she gets to experience this.
This felt like a new year's, Valentine's, and birthday present altogether and I wish I could have all of them forever. Panda and the puppies are healthy and it keeps getting noisier here as the days go by. My office/Panda's room is now a zoo and I'm looking forward to the coming days when they take over the whole house.
This is a dream come true, I'm in doggy haven ππΆπΆπΆπΆπΆ
