The revolution of the earth leads to changes in seasons. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter. The parts of the world that expecrience these four seasons are currently in summer.. yay!
I usually envy those countries that get to experience these four seasons because I consider them nature's blessings. Here in West Africa, we only experience two seasons which are dry season and rainy seasons. During the dry seasons, the heat is exceptionally high, with the sun unleashing its wrath on us . During the rainy season, the clouds empty their bowels on us as well, that we begin to plead for the rain to take a chill pill, lol.
Right now, we are currently experiencing the rainy season and I must confess that it has been very cold here in my country. Asidrs the chillness, the excessive rainfall causes flooding and makes mobility difficult. @nkemakonam can vouch for me on this, lol.
But to answer the #indiaunited contest prompt for the week, ill be sharing a few tips that I personally apply to deal with severe heat during the dry season.
I like summer a lot. The thought of having little to no rainfall for a while is glorious to me as I'm alergic to extremely cold conditions which comes with the rains. But truth be told, all seasons are needed for balance to exist on the Earth.
So my first tip on how I deal with extreme heat is to dress lightly. This does not mean dressing skimpily, rather it means dressing in light weight clothes. If i have to go out, I try to wear light material clothings like cotton clothes or chiffon clothes. These clothes allow air to penetrate into my body which in turn helps me to stay cool and comfortable.
I have noticed that by wearing those kind of clothes, I don't sweat too much and when i do, the sweat easily dries off and I stay cool despite the heat. Wearing light weight clothings is very helpful during very hot periods.
Secondly, I try to stay hydrated as much as possible. During extreme heat periods, the tendency to be thirsty is very high because we lose water and electrolytes through our skin pores as sweat. So drinking water regularly can help reduce dehydration and also keep the internal environment of our body cool.
Thirdly, i bathe once I feel uncomfortable. In school, i was taught to bathe twice a day which is morning and night but during times of extreme heat, I don't follow that rule. I bathe whenever I feel itchy, sweaty and uncomfortable. This could mean that in a day, I'd bathe up to four times. Even when I am at work, there's a provision of staff restroom where staffs can shower and do other restroom business. The only time I don't bathe like this is if I am at an event. But even at that, I would still sit close to an industrial fan or an air conditioner to help myself.
Last but not least, I make use of local hand fans when I am outside. Hand fans help as a cooling device. I use it to blow air to myself which keeps me cool during heat periods. But when I happen to be at home, then I employ all the electric fans. I don't have an air conditioner yet so my electric fans suffice for now. I leave the fans running as long as there is electric power supply. I don't care about the cost I would incure for doing so. My comfortability comes first.
These are the few tips that I employ in dealing with the heat and keeping my body cool and comfortable. I hope it is helpful to someone out there.
