Long-Term vs. Short-Term Investment: Which Side Are You On?

I will not talk about everyone, but whoever starts investing, everyone thinks that they will invest for the long term, but not everyone can do that. People start investing. But they are not able to think long term, and those who invest long term get very good returns. See, if we are in India and you open your PPF account, then you have to invest in it for about 15 years, which is a very long period. If you start working at the age of 20, which is an ideal situation, then you can earn a lot of money in 35 years. There is a limit to depositing money in it, which is 1.5 lakh in a year, and you cannot deposit more than that. The minimum amount starts from ₹500. But still, if a person deposits some fixed amount every month for so many years, they gets very good returns after 15 years.

Everyone gives the example of Warren Buffet because he started investing from a very young age and even when he became very old, he was still investing and most of the people use his strategy for investing because, he has earned very good returns and I will not say that he ever suffers losses by lasting, everyone suffers losses, there is no such investor who makes a lot of money wherever he invests. The overall point here is that if you are starting to invest, then you should invest prospectively.

Especially if you are investing in mutual funds or any other type of investment, if you invest in stocks, then whenever the stock goes very high, you should sell it because you need to book profit in stocks because whenever you notice that if a stock is worth x today, then it can go up to 2X or 4X and there are high chances that it can go even lower than its current value. So very few people understand this thing, and they invest in different types of things for the long term and in different types of things for the short term. Everyone has different strategies regarding investment. some people invest for the long term, and some people invest for the short term. It all depends on different people.

If you are making investments from a long-term perspective, then you should choose investments in which you can get good returns. If, from a long-term perspective, you are investing in such things where you will get very little return or where you may not get a good return, then maybe it will not be beneficial for you. There was a time when people used to keep their money in banks only, but now see, your money should also get safe rules, be it a bank or your investment, I have seen that whenever a scheme is started, then at that time you are given better offerings but gradually as the scheme gets old, then it becomes a little difficult for you to trust them and their work gets done due to their users.

If a person invests some money monthly from the age of 20 to 50 and also does an annual step-up, then this also has a big impact.
