Hello #Hivians 👋, I trust you are staying safe. Welcome to my blog. I am happy to share with you my entry to this activity.
Precious graduated today with a BSc in Information Technology from a prestigious university in Nigeria. I am fortunate to be at her convocation. After the ceremony. I requested a one-to-one conversation with her as a close family friend. Below are excerpts of my advice to him.
Congratulations on your graduation, Precious. I am proud of your achievement today as a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. As a graduate, the world is waiting for you to add value. It seeks individuals who can rewrite history and change the status quo. You just began life’s journey.
You will need firmness and courage to start. Apply for volunteer jobs. Draft a good resume and cover letter. Do not wait for opportunities; look for opportunities. Analyse situations before you jump to conclusions. The world does not reward dreamers but doers.
If opportunities did not materialise on time, do not waste time. Launch out to acquire skills in your area of specialisation. Go online to Udemy, Alison, and Google. Acquire soft skills and apply for online jobs.
Learn and unlearn, be watchful and wise, follow the trend and upskill as much as needed. Knowledge is power, and adaptability a superpower. Ask questions where you are stuck.
Again, do not make comparisons with others; destiny is a personal race. Some may arrive before you, while you may arrive before others. It is okay, move at your own pace. Set SMART goals and parameters that will enable you to achieve your set goals.
Precious, Change is the most constant thing. After setting your SMART goals, review your achieved success and make the needed changes. Restrategise if you found reasonable opportunities in another field. Acquire skills that can enable you to switch and grab the opportunity. Opportunities wait for no man.
Eventually, when you start a job, please leverage savings and investments. Build relationships that will help you navigate your career.
Always conduct a self-appraisal and readjust where necessary. Attitude, character and performance will promote you to the next level. Build your integrity and reputation steadily.
Then, when you feel you need a move, trust your instinct to guide you to the bigger you. Set new goals when you achieve current ones and continue to take giant steps in your career.
Additionally, remain focused and stay within reach, do not be distorted by social media, the clout chasers and the fight for survival. No, precious, the world is waiting for you to exploit and break limits.
Finally, Precious, be hungry for exploits. Get a mentor who will provide guidance when needed. In the words of Kenny Rogers, “Coward of the County, “sometimes, you have to fight to be a man. Remember, you will win some fights, lose some, you will be broken sometimes and even fail at some point; you may doubt your ability. Remain focused, unperturbed. Take some time off, rewind, refuel and relaunch yourself. Do not bite yourself for mistakes made.
Forgive yourself and others. Stay positive always. Pray always and encourage yourself, for a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
Congrats once again, go, occupy and do great exploits.
I look forward to reading from you at the comment section. Thank you for your time.
