Being a student in this generation is really not the same as how it was for people before us. We have access to so many things they didn’t, and one of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is how AI has changed how we do research. To be honest, AI has really helped a lot, especially for people like me who are still learning how to manage time and get things done properly.
Before now, research work used to stress me out. You’d open your textbook, get lost in the middle, then try to Google things but still end up confused. But with AI, it’s like having a study partner that explains things in a simpler way. I’m not saying I use it for everything, but when it comes to understanding difficult concepts or getting quick summaries of long topics, it helps a lot.
As a student, I know the pressure that comes with deadlines, class assignments, and projects. Sometimes you have to juggle all these and still find time for yourself. AI helps me save some of that time. It’s not like I depend fully on it o, I still read, take my notes and do my own findings, but AI makes it faster. It gives me a starting point.
One thing I also like is how AI doesn’t judge. I can ask it the most “dumb” question in my head and it still gives me an answer. Some of these lecturers can make you feel somehow if you ask certain questions in class, so for me, AI is like that quiet place where I go to get clarity before I speak up.
But in all honesty, I’m also careful with it. I know say if you rely on it too much, you go begin lose your own thinking ability. I don’t use AI to write my essays or assignments, because I feel like that defeats the whole purpose of school. I just use it to understand, not to copy.
Another good thing I noticed is that it helps me stay organized. I even use it sometimes to plan my reading schedule or break down big topics into smaller ones. That alone has reduced the way I procrastinate. Sometimes I just tell myself, "Okay, use AI to guide you small, then continue from there" and before I know it, I’m already deep into the work.
Of course, there are people that abuse it. They use AI to write everything, even copy and paste answers without thinking. But honestly, they are just cheating themselves. The real benefit of AI is in using it as a guide, not as a shortcut.
So yes, in my honest opinion, AI has made campus life a bit easier, especially for students who are ready to learn but just need some help to get started. It’s not the enemy, but it’s not the solution to everything either. It’s just one of those tools that, if you use well, can really help you grow.
But if you misuse it, then it becomes a problem,
That’s my take on AI.
