The word, fit-ness, when tons of people see it, all they could think about is hitting the gym, having sex packs and drinking green smoothie. For quite some time too, that was all I could think about. I once thought health was all about how we appear, about decreasing the amount of calories we take in. But, as life has it, I got to know that fitness is far beyond that and far more human.
Do I see myself as an healthy person today? Absolutely yes, just not in the way that we see it on the news.
My journey into the world of fitness started not with hitting the gym or doing 60 sit ups, but when I had a visit to the hospital after a very close friend of mine collapsed suddenly. You know what they say about these things that a lot of people have not been paying close attention to? Zero exercise, stress, consuming energy drink, stress and not getting enough time to sleep are slow death which can cause harm to our health gradually without noticing. We underestimate these enemies. That was what woke me up, not that I am afraid to die but just that I have not been living.
I have come to realise the concord of fitness and that it is very essential to stabilise our mental clarity, spiritual grounding, physical strength and emotional resilience. I stopped drinking energy drink and switched to water, I started walking instead of taking bike or driving to a short destination that will not not take more than 10-15 minutes walk, not that I am fat, but to exercise and listed to my inner thoughts. I sleep with purpose and knowing that rest is very important to human health. And yes, I stretch, do some pushups and exercises to keep my flood flowing.
Socially and ethnically, what the told us is to always look healthy but they forget to teach us on how to feel what being healthy is. But let me say this, feeling healthy simply means, you have to laugh from your belly, wake up without feeling any aches, appreciating and caring for your body even when you do not have the strength, crying without feeling shame and deciding with a clear mind.
I will not say that I am perfect because I still struggle. But the truth is that I am absolutely aware. I am intentional. I am not after a particular weight because all I am after is, joy from inside, strength and energy that last.
To all hive users and my followers reading this, what you need to be aware of is that having a healthy lifestyle is not something you do once, it is absolutely something you do everyday. And in everything you do, just make sure that you start because at the end of it all, your health is not your appearance but what you truly feel inside when you are alive.
