My response to the @Indiaunited community Contest - Theme: what are you doing to deal with the heat?
These are the months which I do not like much, they are dull and summer is at it's peak here in Oman. If I am in Mumbai then there is not much of a hassle, because it's rainy season out there and with rains it gets pleasant, especially in the mountains. But here in Oman, the months from May to Sept are summer and June to Aug are the peak months. The temperature soars up to 45 degrees and on certain days it can also go up to 48 and 50 degrees.
As such I like to spend some time in the sun on a daily basis, but during these months I do not, the excess heat makes me feel sick. If I have to step out for any work I try to plan it towards evening time, when the sun starts going down. If I have to go out, I use an umbrella to cover myself up from the sun, and also apply sunscreen. Sun time is good for the skin, but not the peak summer one. Without an umbrella it is possible to get a sunstroke. Morning I open up the windows for around half an hour for fresh air and then close them for the rest of the day. Switch on the air conditioner for some time and then with the windows close the pleasantness stays for long time.
For my personal care, I drink a lot of water and also avoid very heavy foods that are heavy to digest. Keep my body as light as possible, that makes me feel good. Because am not going out much in sun during this time, I take Vitamin D supplements regularly and also Vitamin C and other supplements which helps maintain proper fluid balance in the body. I also keep รฉlectrolytes sachets in my bag, if I am out for a long time. Add it in water and keep sipping it on the go. And even if it is hot outside, I wear full sleeves to not get any sun burns.
During peak summer, my evening walks also get a little late, I only go for walks after the sunset and avoid very humid places, like the beach. During summers I prefer going to the park then the beach. Here in Oman we have air-conditioners everywhere we go, so once we are indoors there is no problem. It's only if we are stepping out then need to be careful so that it does not impact health.
These are the months when I prefer being in Mumbai, but then I cannot be there through out the summer season, so some part of it I do have to face.
