The final season of Squid Game, Season 3, will be released on Netflix on June 27.
Netflix announced on January 30 that the third season of the globally popular South Korean series Squid Game, which is the final season, will be released on June 27. This announcement was made through the "Next on Netflix" program, and a teaser video was also shown.
The series, which depicts a deadly game where participants, unaware of the fate awaiting them, compete for a massive prize of 45.6 billion Korean Won, was first released on Netflix in September 2021. Within 28 days, it reached 111 million viewers, making it Netflix's most-watched series. Due to its violent and gruesome content, it is rated for viewers over the age of 15.
The success of Season 1 also led to an increase in the number of Netflix subscribers. The success of Season 2, released on December 26, also made it the most-watched series across 92 countries immediately after its release. In Season 3, Lee Jung-jae will return as the lead.
However, many viewers criticized the acting of former BigBang member and rapper T.O.P, who played a doctor in Season 2. His portrayal was seen as disconnected from the character, and viewers felt it didn’t match the character’s reality. T.O.P had faced a 10-month prison sentence for drug use in 2017.
Rumors have circulated that Leonardo DiCaprio will appear as a guest star in Season 3, but Netflix denied these claims. On January 1, Netflix shared the Season 3 poster on social media.
The poster features characters from the iconic Red Light, Green Light game, including Young Hee and a male doll named Chul Su. Both dolls are shown together in the image, making for a striking visual.
