Sitting alone and facing the roaring waves of the beach made me see the ends of the earth without transporting to the grave. Yeah. I was half dead but yet I live. It was not long that I discovered that all the children my wife and I had nurtured together weren't mine.
We have been married for twenty-eight good years. All these years, we shared everything. The good times and the bad times.
Most of our lives were an awesome experience. Like, we visited about eight countries after our wedding. I had the funds and needed someone who could spend it with me. When we first met, I wasn't sure I was ready to settle down because I was a city boy who wanted to explore more.
On Friday evenings, I would either go to a karaoke or when I need to get drunk, I would just opt for clubbing.
It was in one of such nights that met I met Lilian. She was a cute angel. One I think made my pants shift. That night, I was prepared to get tipsy and dance to sweats but Lilian's presence made me change my thoughts.
I think she noticed that I was staring at her. Bold enough, she walked up to me, something I ought to have done. The smell of alher fine perfume left a lot to behoove. Silent, she whispered to my ears. Words that were ripe enough to pierce through my mind.
Why are you staring? Got something to say?
I was too dumbfounded to utter a statement. Like a doll, I followed her lead as she walked to her private lounge.
We sat and had some drinks all night. Her English accent made me know she is a United Kingdom returnee. She was the perfect woman for me.
After all the chit-chat, we agreed to meet on Sunday after service. It was like them years to see her again. I wanted her company. It was like I have never met a woman all my life. Lilian could cook, wash and clean the home, despite that she was not brought up at home.
After three months of courtship, we got married. It was a dream come through for us, rather, for me.
After two months of traveling around the world for our honeymoon. We settled in the heart of Port Harcourt while I supervised my company in Lagos.
I wanted us to wait a little before we start bearing children but Lilian got married and we had our first child a year after our wedding. And the next, two years later.
Suddenly, our first child became very sick. It was the first time that Dan would be so sick. He is a strong boy but after his fourth birthday party, he fell sick. We did all we could do but nothing seemed to work.
One of our doctors asked that a blood transmission be done after Dan was diagnosed with Leukemia.
Since the transmission requires only one pint of blood, I thought to donate.
In the good screening routine, it was discovered that my blood does not match Dan's. I couldn't place it.
Watch out for part 2.
