There is a saying that "Some things always seem impossible until it’s done.”
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to venture into Fashion Designing. But, I have not been able to because there were a lot of factors stopping me for a long time.
Then, one day, I realized that putting it off for a longer duration would just make it harder to achieve. I also wasn't having enough free time at work plus we had to work for longer hours with less pay. So, I had to resort to taking extra lessons to make ends meet because my income as a teacher wasn't making life easy.
Every day, I leave home by 7am and get back home by 7pm. There were moments when I got home by 8pm. It wasn't any different on weekends. I usually leave home by 10am and get back at 6pm on Saturdays. And, on Sundays, I worked from noon to 6pm or 7 pm. I barely have time for myself to socialize or even go out for fun activities.
I always wondered how to carve out time from that hectic schedule and learn the skill I so much love.
At some point, I considered giving up the extra lessons I take but doing so would affect my finances. I would have to rely solely on my pay as a teacher which would be difficult for me to live on. Yeah, my salary could barely cover my basic needs and I definitely would have no savings.
I thought of a more reasonable plan and decided to give myself about 6 months to save very well before I embark on the "Journey of learning a skill". I made the necessary enquiry on everything needed for the training and I worked tirelessly to save enough and enroll for the skill acquisition training. After six months, I let get go of all the extra lessons I was handling in order to have the time needed to learn about Fashion designing.
To be fair, things were really overwhelming in the initial stage of my training. I began to wonder if I would ever understand what I am being taught. But, thanks to my boss... She took her time to explain things clearly. In due time, I started to get a hang of the whole thing.
My finances though... Throughout the duration of the training, I was only relying on my salary as a teacher.
All the money I saved were used to pay for the registration and acquisition of all necessary materials. It got to a point where I almost gave up, but knowing that I am yet to achieve what I set to do, I forged on till I achieved my goal and completed my training as a Fashion Designer.
Here I am wearing a smile and glad that I made it.
The day I was handed my certificate of completion, I was shedding tears of joy for I only knew that even though the journey wasn't smooth sailing, I never gave up and I achieved my goal.
