Welcome
Welcome back to another wrap-up of the S&S Monthly Invitational! Apologies for being a little tardy this month... literally all of the judges had crazy life stuff happening that messed with our ability to coordinate the way we wanted! This month, y'all were presented with a challenge: write us your best science fiction story in 800-1500 words with the central theme of a dreamscape or a dreamland. It was a fun prompt that elicited REALLY fun stories - some of which my fellow judges and I agreed could easily be made into a serial story!
(Seriously, if you feel like your concept was strong enough to elaborate upon and turn into a longer story series... PLEASE DO IT!)
Again, our job in judging was difficult because of the high quality work ya'll brought us, so we had to take our time in identifying stories which really stood out. Now, we have finally reached a consensus...
Drumroll, please...
Our Winners!
Gold: 30 SCHOLAR, 3 SCRIBE, and 3 HSBI goes to: @driptorchpress!
Driptorchpress brought us a truly incredible and well-crafted story with twists and turns that - truthfully - a synopsis would spoil. Let's just say that this dreamscape of warped time and reality was a pleasure to navigate, and an even greater pleasure to award our Gold placement for this month!
Silver: 20 SCHOLAR, 2 SCRIBE, and 1 HSBI goes to: @thoth442!
Thoth442 has proven over the past few months that he's got chops when it comes to writing, and this piece was no exception to the rule! His story of a man working in a dystopian corporation was a highly enjoyable and well-crafted piece, well-deserving of our Silver placement! Go and give it a read, and... don't sign any contracts involving HR Judy's...
Bronze: 10 SCHOLAR and 1 SCRIBE goes to: @grindan!
A new face (at least to this competition), grindan came out SWINGING! Her story of a dystopian tech company using the poor as test subjects and a very special young woman was a truly pleasurable read! When I say that this piece was a Silver contender, I mean it took SPLITTING HAIRS to determine between the two!
Katz Bane: The Realm of the Relinquished
Runners-Up:
Two exceptional authors who we felt deserved special mentions as Runners-Up were:
Gracepro's "Dreamers" told a story of a world divided with specially abled individuals being hunted and imprisoned because of their powers, and seki1's "Dead Dreams" portrayed a fascinating pest problem that federal dream agents are required to rectify. Both of these stories were absolutely incredible, and absolutely deserve their time in the limelight as well!
You will both be receiving 5 SCHOLAR and .5 SCRIBE as reward for your good work and participation.
Conclusion
So, this concludes our September S&S Monthly Competition! Rewards will be divvied up within the next 24 hours so be watching your wallets to ensure your winnings come through!
Special thanks to my fellow judges, @zakludick and @thaddeusprime for serving at the round table and helping to select winners this month! I know we had a tough time getting together for a variety of reasons, but I appreciate y'all's help - couldn't have done it without you! Also, I'd like to extend a special thanks to @relf87 for, once again, pledging 20 SCHOLAR to the prize pool for distribution of rewards! You're an absolute legend, man! Last, but CERTAINLY not least, I'd like to thank the LeoFinance Community for their ongoing sponsorship of 200 LEO for this competition - y'all are absolutely amazing!
In acknowledgement and appreciation for the LeoFinance Community and their sponsorship of this contest, let's get #ss-monthly trending over on Leo Threads! Share this announcement post with a quick message of love and appreciation for the Leo community and make sure to use the #ss-monthly tag!
Thank you all for following this competition, be watching for the next monthly contest to drop this week! Easiest way to track them is to follow me since I will always be hosting the contest from this acount, but the general rule of thumb is that they'll always be dropped in the first week of a new month and pinned to the top of the Scholar & Scribe community page with the #ss-monthly tag! See y'all in the next one!
As always, take care of yourselves and each other, and stay thoughtful!
Your friendly neighborhood dork,
~Thinkr
