When your from the west coast of Australia but never actually visited the most western point of the continent before you left on a travelling adventure and when your at the most northern point of the continent and decide to go back west, it's only about 4500 kilometres but why not! Our kids love looking at the map of Australia and examining all the places we've been, it's such a great way to teach them about maps, distances and geography. The freedom to travel wherever you want is such a blessing! Of course the fact that we had work lined up for a few weeks in the west made our decision easy. The cost of travelling can take its toll and if you don't have your own business to work from home then you need to rely on picking up jobs as you go. Having a trade makes picking up causal work a lot easier, so we are very blessed and thankful for the opportunities we get.
After the jobs were all done, we were back on our way exploring our beautiful country, the most westerly point of the Australian continent was on our 'to do' list! We made it! And WOW, what a breathtaking part of the world. We were literally the only ones out there and it felt so remote. It took us around 3.5 hours of four wheel driving over sand dunes to get to Steep Point, the most western point of Australia's mainland. The stunning views of such a ruggard but truly beautiful coastline were everything worthy of photographing.
As usual I took way too many photos, but it's so hard not to when it's this good. The driving tracks had bumps like the ocean waves, soft sand and at times were a little hard to navigate, but interesting and plenty of wildlife to see also. On the way out we did a few kilometres driving on the beach and stopped for some much needed swimming and playing.
A gorgeous pink sea urchin shell, there were purple and green ones also.
The best blowholes we have ever seen or heard, but my oh my, are these scary! The rumble of waves in a giant underground cave coming up through a tiny square inch hole and cracks in the rocks,from at least 30 metres below! Our youngest got so scared from the noise it made him cry. Although it was rather scary, this was definitely one of my highlights of the adventure. The sheer power of water is nerve wrecking, yet awe inspiring.
The sort of place you think exists in fairytales. Just stunning and also a tad scary with the waves raging below.
