Me and my girls, live a very colourful life. I want them to get to experience life. To grow up, feeling confident in expressing themselves and taking care of themselves.
It's important to me, that they help out around the home and that they know how to look after themselves. I want them to take a sense of pride in their self care. Especially when it comes to what they are feeding themselves.
Our kids are great at making connections. When they grow up consuming living foods, then they really get to experience the affect that processed foods have on them. Then they get to decide what is best for them.
We like to start out way with a juice. Not all the time, in the winter we usually like to make porridge with lots of seeds and fruit. But as it has gotten warmer, it's juices we craved.
My youngest came to the market with me during the week. She made her own shopping list, which consisted of drawings of fruit and veg and some chocolate.
She drew all the above, carrots, beetroot, apple, pears, spinach and lemon. Knowing exactly what she wanted in her juice. And what a beautiful juice it was.
She just loves, to use the juicer and takes great pride in the fact that she is making her own juice. I certainly find it very satisfying, watching the juicer, separate the juice from the fibre. And the colours ,from each fruit/veg sitting side by side, until you mix them all together
We end up with quite a lot of fibre, which we usually use to make muffins. When we have an oven that is, but for now, we feed it to some horses that live near by. Who really enjoy it.
It's so important, what we expose our kids to. All of these things get imprinted into their minds. And, they will always do what is familiar to them. So why not make juicing, a part of their daily lives.
My middle daughter loves when we make juice with beetroot, because she gets to have red lips. She also enjoys the taste, but the red lips is definitely a bonus.
From the time our children are born, what we expose them, influences them hugely in the life that they will create for themselves. What we prioritise, is what they will go on to prioritise.
Teaching them, about the importance of what we consume, is so important. Teaching them, by doing is the best way in which to do so. Getting them directly involved in creating the food that they will consume, is a wonderful way in which to teach them abut nutrients.
Because the food itself, or in this case the juice, will speak for itself. Our bodies don't lie. Once they know what is good for them, they will always know!
