Until a couple of years ago, I had never thought I would be a person to sail over seas or a person who would understand sailing and watering and (small) crossing in general.
A lot had changed in there since I have also put a lot of work into it but the deal is...we are kind of solo sailing abroad.
And sure...there are some helplines and some ideas in the morning what the wind will do and what is a smart thing to do then, but that is it. I still feel like a newbie. But then just on a boat in the water. Whoever thought about giving out boating licenses without physically testing on the water what they can actually do is mad.
Because there is so much more in a day to consider!
There is temperature as in burning you to charcoal and of course something like reading the maps and calculating your drift, but also the speed and the direction of the wind. And apart from the wind there are also your sails you need to adjust and the option is there to do in many forms.
Will all of those things there to consider the whole day of sailing the question rises. Am I doing the optimum in everything? Is the wind still good for what I am doing? Should I change anything or did it did just change? Is my direction still good?
If the wind is more powerful...do I need a reef in the sails? And if I do...shall I out it in the gib or in the main, or maybe in both? Am I comfortable with all of this wind? Sailing has brought be so many new questions that I didn't know I needed to ask and that is puzzling.
And fun as well! Sailing is hilarious and als easy but hard at the same time. It is hard work but also lounging but most of all....it is a lot of winding down, and that is awesome.
On to more perfect sails to cross the seas!!
