- What Am I Really Trying to Do?
As a newbie, there are two reasons behind any outcome. Either you found out how to do something through an instruction manual/tutorial or you found it out by guessing and (luckily) getting it right. When I started just a few days ago, I did both! Today, I'm here to show you how to import your wallet keys manually if you had not done this at the end of the Hive signup process. This will allow you to power up your Hive Power (or HP). From what I learned from the Newbie Guide, Hive Power is proportional to the amount of resource credits (RC) you own - which in turn allows you to be able to "do" more on this platform. I soon got first-hand experience really quickly after I had unknowingly used my resource credits to make an extremely short post and an extremely short reply to a comment - which prevented me from posting and contributing things for a couple of days (woops!). So, I made this quick tutorial article to hopefully help other newbies with this initial process. Here we go!
- Manually Importing Your Wallet Keys
Once you've downloaded and established the Hive keychain extension on Google Chrome, open the keychain extension and login. Then, click the settings button - which looks like three short horizontal bars stacked on top of one another. Afterwards, click the "Manage Accounts" button. You will see three keys - the posting key, the active key, and the memo key. If there was already a key that had been stored, there would be a word called "Remove". Otherwise, you need to click the green "plus" sign just below the key that you want to update and input the key that was given to you during the sign-up process.
- Powering Up your Hive Power
Ok, now for the easier part! Return to the main home screen of the Hive Keychain wallet. If you've just finished the process of updating your keys, simply keep clicking the "back" arrow at the top left of the Hive Keychain screen until you arrive at the main screen (i.e., the screen with a picture of two keys on the top left of the Hive Keychain screen). Now, look at the three unit value names near the right edge of the Hive Keychain screen - Hive, HBD, and HP. Each of these has a (drop down) arrow next to the unit value name. Click the drop down arrow next to HIVE and select Power Up. If you've bought or transferred in some HIVE, you can input the amount you want to convert to HP, then click "Power Up". Your current balance of HP should update once you have completed all of these steps.
Please note that this tutorial was made on 2021/10/29. The layout of the Hive Keychain wallet may have changed since this point, but the general idea on how to import wallet keys and power up HP remains the same. This tutorial reflects only my thoughts and experiences on Hive and should not be used as legal financial advice. For more information about this platform you can consult the guide that I used to help familiarize myself with Hive at this link: https://jryze.me/hive/
Thank you very much for reading and have a great day!
