Great Hive Posts are not Getting Seen.
And posts that are seen are not getting rewarded
Go take a look at the Top Viewed Posts tab on @peakd.
There you can see the top viewed posts on peakd.com for various intervals. In the last day, previous day, past week, past and previous month etc.
The numbers that we see there are not particularly impressive. Oh, well peakd.com is just one of many front ends you might argue - ok, that's true, but it is the most popular front end as far as web traffic ranking sites can tell us. As the most popular Hive site, it is unlikely that our posts are getting huge amounts of views on the other, less popular sites. If you multiply these views by 10 times, they still aren't great.
How to get a post to be the top viewed in 2 steps
- Find an amazing, but under-seen and under-rewarded post.
- Share the link on an appropriate subreddit where they too will appreciate the post
Admittedly, step 1 is harder than it sounds, but if you're spending time curating, I know you can do it. There are a lot of great posts here on Hive. It's this easy, but it shouldn't be. It should be competitive. We should all be trying to push great Hive posts out there.
In the past week I've already achieved it twice. I came across two of @zirochka's posts about her experience seeking out Banksy's graffiti art in the war torn and largely destroyed satellite towns North West of Kyiv. It was immediately obvious to me that these were not just great Hive posts, they are amazing posts that loads of people who are following the story of the war in Ukraine will appreciate.
I simply shared these posts on the /r/Ukraine subreddit, where I know people would appreciate them. And guess what, they did.
In both cases, within an hour or so of posting her post was already the top viewed post of the day. Here is the one just today. It was on 20 views before I shared in on Reddit. WIth over 200 views now, it's beating everything else in traffic today.
One amazing post, one share on Reddit, and it's already the top viewed post on peakd.com today. The first of those posts got the top this week, with about 1200 views coming in mostly from Reddit.
Can you call yourself a curator if you don't also make sure your curated posts are seen?
Maybe you can, technically. Yet, what is the point in Hive if we don't also make sure the best Hive posts (and thus Hive itself) are being seen by the broader public? In order for your Hive to have value we have to be actively growing the network, every 'job' in the Hive ecosystem has to serve that purpose ultimately. We're not here just to reward eachother all working in obscurity.
I propose that if you spend the time to curate posts each day, take just a little bit of extra time to make sure the best ones get seen outside of Hive. Share them on Reddit, share them on Twitter (if you have a following). Share them anywhere they will be appreciated.
And also, take a look at the top viewed posts on peakd.com. Much of the time, the posts that do get seen by the broader public, aren't getting anywhere near the rewards and attention they deserve back home in the Hive community.
