My current desktop background is a picture of Classiebawn Castle, in County Sligo, Ireland. Our vista is what appears to be from a drone shot of fluffy sheep munching on an impossibly green Irish pasture. A touch back on the right, we see the castle itself dominating the scene ("the rule of thirds"), and in the distance, a small village set against the sharp relief of green hills and a mesa that wouldn't be out of place in the American Desert Southwest.
These backgrounds usually change daily (and sometimes more often than that). It gives me yet another reason to login in order to see what the new background will be.
Years ago when he was the hottest golfer in the world, I read an interview from Tiger Woods. In it, he shared that as a young kid learning the craft, his father taught him that he didn't have to be top dog from the start of a tournament, he just had to "Hang Around" the upper reaches of the leaderbord in order to give himself a real chance at winning.
These things made me think about some of the creators I've followed (in some cases for years), on Hive. Like Tiger, they have a tendency to "Hang Around" by producing engaging content on a regular basis.
Lately, you're seeing me stop in at InLeo Threads more often. It's mostly because I have more free time now to do so, but it's also part of my long-stated desire to help build on Hive and InLeo. Taskmaster wrote this week about "data being the new oil" in his article More Valuable Database = More Valuable Hive, and boy is he right. We need to have a matrix of data in order to help this platform grow.
In shoppers psychology, it's been shown that potential customers are more driven to visit an establishment if it looks busy. I see it myself when I'm out at the supermarket. More often than not, if someone sees me contemplating purchasing a certain item, they're much more likely to reach for it themselves as well. Call it FOMO or whatever, my interest piqued their interest, and the same applies to Hive.
The 'Law of Attraction' in Action
Why do I consume content from some of the creators I mentioned earlier? It's because they create engaging content, which I see because they're "Hanging Around" as I surf throughout Hive.
I don't need to name names, but I'm sure you recognize those content creators we have here who share insightful posts day after day. Like Tiger, they've earned their place in the upper reaches of the leaderboard, and always have something interesting to say.
They're found on InLeo Threads, sparking conversations throughout the day. I also started noticing them years ago when they popped in to upvote my content, or leave a comment (you better believe I "notice that" as long as they're not a spammer or someone looking to copy or steal, in which case I ignore them, as they need to learn to create their own ORIGINAL content).
We need many more builders willing to share their own unique "voice" in order to help this platform grow. Having an owners mindset really means a lot.
And while I may not have a huge stake (yet), I upvote, curate, and try to add value to good, interesting, posts and in the comments section throughout the day. This is what Hivians with an owners mindset do, they turn that law of attraction into action.
These are the type of people that pitch in when they see a lonely post that could use a healthy upvote or a comment. They'll engage with the author of a singular Thread on InLeo, so that that person will feel welcome and included. In short, they're "Hanging Around" and raising their own profile in the process.
And that's part of exactly what I'll be doing when I publish this post, as I "Hang Around" on Hive. Like that supermarket outing I spoke of earlier, I'm doing my small part to help build that valuable database that Task wrote about. Everything we do here, has the ability to positively affect another and to showcase the awesome potential of Hive. All we have to do is keep "Hanging Around."
