I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, and writing long blog posts just isn’t doable for me. Neither is 24/7 community-building. I genuinely admire the people who can do both. But I rarely find the focus to write a qualitative blog post, and on the rare occasions that I do I always feel so mentally drained afterwards that the pride you're supposed to feel when finishing something that is difficult for you is just no there, and I just feel like shit.
The older I get the less shame I feel about my weaknesses and I more start to accept them as a part of me, which is very liberating. Sure there are moments where I regret not being "better" at the things that make some of the other content creators so great here. Especially when there is a good discussion underneath a post for example. Despite understanding what they are talking about and wanting to contribute I know that I won't be able to phrase the point I want to make properly so I just refrain from participating in the discussion. This stings honestly, but I know it's better in the long run.
Despite Hive not originally made for more ADHD content we've found ways to make it work. Short post services like @peak.snaps or @leothreads allow us to not only create more ADHD friendly content, but also promotes it. We can share our livestreams here through various apps or even stream on services specially made for Hive. Even pictures are getting uploaded by different apps, yet we've gotten so used to them that they feel like they are just part of Hive's core. All of this thanks to a consensus of what content is and what it's "worth", which allows Hive to be enjoyed by many and not just the fine poets.
But it does beg a unpleasant question: What about your rewards?
What Influences Earnings In My Opinion
Before I make a summation of what I think impacts your earnings I want to just say this is only my opinion. And my opinion is worth exactly that: one person's opinion. Not more, not less. I can not only be wrong, misinformed or forgetting some things. I most likely am all three of them.
Qualitative content alone is not what is going to get you rewards in the long run, but it is what is going to get you noticed.
What is more important for rewards is:
- Your reputation (not your account reputation). Are you well known, liked, etc
- Your own HP (it be dumb to not include that)
- Your active age on Hive (Your account age - the times you where inactive)
- Your networking efforts, Hive is a social network and as social beings interaction has to be two sided to which means it's give and take
- Your consistency, if you are consistently active on Hive you will get noticed by other consistent users as well
The majority of the people that get good votes are not only being rewarded for their current content. Rather than that it is a summation of so much more: their past content, their community building, not only on Hive but Discord and so much, much more. Things that aren't necessarily visible at first sight.
But what if you are like me and are pretty bad at most of these points?
Less is More Fine
What if you are simply not build to grind communities, or to write great content? That is perfectly fine! If you simply can't or are not interested in making amazing posts, then don't. Create content that is in line with what you like. If you force yourself you're going to end up burning yourself, so why would you?
There are so many apps and types of content that there is no shame in referring to the ones that peek your interest. Take a deep dive in the content that you like. You don't like books or cooking, but like memes? Engage with that type of content. You only want to post and engage once every two weeks? Then do that.
Your grind is going to be much slower, and your earnings will be less and in the long run in line with what you deserve. On the other hand you'll still be growing and who knows, you might actually enjoy your time here
Now before I head off, act like this isn't full of grammatical errors that I will need to clean up later, take a nap and reflect on why I even wanted to write all of this just know: I prefer to see your content pass once every two weeks than not at all
