I realize the name of the game is views. So, YouTubers do what they do because they want us to click. Painfully, I have to admit, it worked. I ended up listening to three people talk about crypto, and a few minutes in, it was obvious I was wasting my time.

But the title got me. A whistleblower in crypto? What? What does this person supposedly know about government activity? Is dark money really taking over this space? Was I right when I wrote about this doomsday scenario months ago? Could it really be happening this fast?

I’m sure people who follow my ramblings might not want to subject themselves to that video, and I get it. It might be enough to say: the moment someone drops the line “crypto has no underlying value” as part of their so-called analysis, we can safely tune them out. Even more so if that person is presented as an expert. As one commenter said in the absolutely ratioed video: Wait until he hears about fiat!

All that said, I haven’t changed my tune either. I do think we’ve taken some steps in the wrong direction, and I hope we can correct course. There are people out there—OGs, as they’re called—who are genuinely excited that there’s “government clarity” in crypto now. There I was, thinking we didn’t need to ask for permission. But there goes the ethos, right down the toilet.

Now, do I think the doomsday scenario is already here? That’s what I was trying to find out. But my version of the doomsday scenario is not at all connected to the “dire warning” of this so-called crypto whistleblower.

To me, the real threat is complacency. Quiet obedience. People registering their wallets with the government. Nodes being licensed. Specific wallets being banned or blacklisted. And eventually, we end up with a new skin for the same old banking system.

I’ll grant “whistleblower dude” one small victory here. The reason the elites have suddenly become crypto fans has very little to do with understanding the tech. To them, this is about securing a larger slice of the pie. The market isn’t regulated yet, so they’re trying to leverage the state to favor their bags above all else.

At the risk of upsetting someone, I’ll say this much. There are tokens I prefer not to engage with. Not because they’re not useful, or because they won’t make me money, but because I oppose them on principle. I want nothing to do with tokens that banks use. I want nothing to do with coins governments will pump and then control. Why would I?

I’ve spent nearly nine years trying to walk away from the legacy system. Why would I look back now? I may not turn into a pile of salt, but I’d be tempting fate.

I’ll leave you the video, in case you want to check if I’m being unfair. If anything, it might be mildly entertaining to watch three people discuss something they clearly don’t understand.

Me doy cuenta de que el nombre del juego es obtener vistas. Así que los YouTubers hacen lo que hacen porque quieren que hagamos clic. Dolorosamente, tengo que admitir que funcionó. Terminé escuchando a tres personas hablar sobre cripto, y a los pocos minutos me di cuenta de que estaba perdiendo el tiempo.

Pero el título me atrapó. ¿Un soplón del mundo cripto? ¿Qué? ¿Qué sabe esta persona sobre las actividades del gobierno? ¿El dinero oscuro está tomando control de este espacio? ¿Tenía razón cuando escribí sobre ese escenario apocalíptico hace unos meses? ¿Está ocurriendo tan rápido?

Estoy seguro de que los que siguen mis desvaríos quizás no quieran someterse a ese video, y lo entiendo. Tal vez baste con decir que, en el momento en que alguien dice “el cripto no tiene valor intrínseco” como parte de su gran análisis intelectual, podemos dejar de escuchar. Más aún si esa persona se presenta como experta. Como dijo un comentarista en el video burlandose: ¡Espera a que escuche sobre el fiat!

Dicho esto, tampoco he cambiado de opinión. Creo que hemos dado algunos pasos en la dirección equivocada, y espero que podamos corregir el rumbo. Hay gente por ahí—los llamados OGs—que están súper emocionados porque ahora hay “claridad gubernamental” respecto al cripto. Yo pensaba que no teníamos que pedir permiso. Pero parece que el espíritu original se fue por el inodoro.

Ahora bien, ¿creo que el escenario apocalíptico ya llegó? Eso era lo que intentaba averiguar. Pero mi versión del fin del juego no tiene nada que ver con las “advertencias graves” de este supuesto soplón cripto.

Para mí, el verdadero peligro es la complacencia. La obediencia silenciosa. Gente registrando sus billeteras con el gobierno. Nodos licenciados. Billeteras específicas vetadas o en listas negras. Y al final, terminamos con un disfraz nuevo para el mismo sistema bancario de siempre.

Le concedo una pequeña victoria al “tipo soplón”. La razón por la que las élites ahora son fans del cripto no tiene nada que ver con entender la tecnología. Para ellos, todo se trata de quedarse con una parte más grande del pastel. Este mercado aún no está regulado, así que quieren usar al gobierno a su favor.

A riesgo de incomodar a alguien, lo diré claro. Hay tokens con los que prefiero no involucrarme. No porque no sean útiles, o no me puedan dar ganancias, sino porque los rechazo ideológicamente. No quiero tokens que usen los bancos. No quiero las monedas que los gobiernos van a inflar y controlar. ¿Por qué lo haría?

He pasado casi nueve años tratando de alejarme del sistema heredado. ¿Por qué querría mirar atrás? Tal vez no me convierta en una estatua de sal, pero sí siento que estaría tentando al destino.
